When we featured K. Michelle‘s Can’t Go On in late May of ‘08, it was praised by Booth readers for its classic R&B feel, but some commented that the cut lacked modern-day appeal. With a new label home (HiTz Committee/Jive) and a newly-bleached ‘do, the singer is now ready to introduce the streets to her unique brand of R&B. The first single off her forthcoming debut, Pain Medicine, is an anthem for all the independent, Self Made ladies who earn their own money, pay their own bills, and don’t need a man for anything at all (as Webbie, Ne-Yo, and Jamie Foxx will tell you, that theme means a surefire hit!). As self-proclaimed “Baddest Chick” Trina provides some moral support, Drumma Boy delivers what is perhaps his most up-tempo beat to date, ensuring that Self Made will have no trouble catching on at radio. K. Michelle’s cure for the common R&B album will be administered August 11th—let’s hope her Pain Medicine has what it takes to nurse the genre back to health.

This song is cool until the hook starts, which is just stupid sounding. The production is pretty cool on here tho. I've never liked Trina, and this song didnt change my opinion of her. K. Michelle had some nice vocals in the beginning, if only she had just kept that vibe instead of adding Trina and that corny hook...

Been hearing about this song recently, im a woman who can relate to this which is always good when listening to music. Very pretty girl, with a very strong voice. As a consumer it often puzzles me that we always complain about with no vocal talent, but when we are presented with one who can obviously sing we judge them on everything but their talent. If she was half singing she would have 5stars all the way down. Yes she looks like a videos girl! Lol, but the song has a great message and shes blowin! Ipod repeat! Oh and shes from MEMPHIS,10, my hometown.

I know her body and face is sexy as hell but c'mon guys you cant incorporate that into the rating. The beat has some bounce in it and the hook is alright. Like the guy above her voice is really strong and it might not be the smoothest but she changes her volume well. Trina's verse is iight and this is the type of song she can do well on. Nice hood/bad chick song. I can throw it in rotation

Judging by the curve in her lower back, I can tell she has a phat phannie too! The beat is banging and the radio heads will love this shyt. She has a BIG voice like my phanie and like J Hud and a swag like lil kim!

5 stars means "a classic" and "Self Made" - while radio ready - is no classic. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but that means K. Michelle can't do any better? I don't think so. Let's challenge her!
Great production, weak guest verse (who wasn't needed), and solid arrangement. Nice starting position.

K. Michelle came with it, but I can't give this thing anymore than a 3. It's a solid track, but I can't call this a classic. This is a proven formula for the ladies out there and she's taking advantage, but you can't compare this to a Beyonce ladies anthem and still call this one a classic.

KDoftheAdvengerz I agree i listened to Cant go on, and her vocals are no joke. She does have the potential to do even better, unlike alot of the other female music posted on her now. This record will not get her a grammy, but it will give her the look she needs in order to start playing the game. The record is hot and not meant to be super deep, just fun for the ladies and that it is doing, so for that I give it a strong solid 3 and for the fact that she actually took out time and did real vocal arrangements on a club up I couldnt possibly give it less than a 4. Do your thang Miss K.michelle, show us what u got! |
