Soft, gentle, commodious, fluid, peaceful, soothing, placid, serene… Sorry, just browsing my thesaurus, since I figured I’d need a few synonyms for “smooth” in order to describe K. Sparks’ latest offering without sounding like a broken record. Velvet Thoughts (Sutphin), leak numero cuatro off the final entry in his ongoing mixtape Trilogy finds the freestyle series alum and longstanding reader favorite recounting a blossoming romance with a chick who shares a name with Jamaica, Queens’ second busiest throughfare. In addition to Skrazey‘s smooth euphonious saxophone samples and Sparks’ smooth unblemished game-spitting, this smooth languid joint boasts the smooth mellifluous vocal stylings of Parisian chanteuse Laëtitia Dana, who contributes a(n) smooth easygoing guest verse as well as smooth ear-pleasing backing vocals throughout. Phew – that was a lot of synonyms. The Trilogy (Vol. 3) still lacks a solid release date, but Sparks fans who have yet to cop chapters one and two can stream/download them here and here, courtesy of DJBooth.net.

 I've always enjoyed Sparks' work over bluey/jazz-sounding production, which is why I am such a big fan of "Velvet Thoughts." Its easy, enjoyable listening, which allows the emcee to shine the brightest (and not the beat, which too often overshadows the work of the artist).

I really don't comment/rate often but K.Sparks has consistantly been putting out banger after banger i felt i had to say somethin. Hip-Hop needs some more of this laid back, jazzy style - would do the world a whole lotta good!

I want to see him more laid back on something like this. He always spits and like a certain pace and I just would like to see him change it up. Especially if it's something so kicked back and Jazzy. Like you need some wine and a joint.

K.Sparks is one of my favz 4a min now... this bro just makes listening to his music a pleasant experience. I'm not familiar with Laëtitia Dana but baby girl sounds "baby bottom" smoov on this track.
