K-Salaam & Beatnick - Let's Get It On (Remix) ft. Marvin Gaye
Artist: K-Salaam & Beatnick
Producer: K-Salaam & Beatnick
Album: Never Can Say Goodbye
Label: VP Records
In my review of K-Salaam & Beatnick‘s last DJBooth feature, I brought up the possibility that their remixed version of Jackson 5 cut Never Can Say Goodbye would lead to a full-length project a la S.T.O.R.Y., their collection of Common remixes. As it turns out, the previous feature will be the title track of a forthcoming collection of revamped soul classics. Now, the Minneapolis production duo brings listeners an inspired reinterpretation of Marvin Gaye‘s Let’s Get It On. Amping up the tension with an overhauled chord progression, K-Salaam & Beatnick swap the original’s sunny sensuality for something a little chillier to showcase an entirely new (but no less sexy) side of the universally-beloved song. This record, along with the duo’s previous feature, make it crystal clear that K-Salaam & Beatnick are on a serious creative hot streak. With remixes of Al Green, Stevie Wonder, The Spinners, Curtis Mayfield and more set for inclusion on Never Can Say Goodbye, R&B-lovers have a lot to look forward to.

I'm definately feelin the production, just not for this song... I mean, it's pretty good, but nothing close to the original... K Salaam and Beatnick hit gold with that "Never Can Say Goodbye" remix, but this one falls short...

I really dont feel this track right here. Its okay, but why cant they leave Marvin Gayes track alone. The original one is way better, because the beat actally matched the emotion and meaning of this songs message. This beat is a bit of what gaye wanted the listoners to relate to. its decent...but not worth hearing twice.

What these fellas are doing with old school joints is both impressive and commendable. Few producers and artists - these days - are willing to truly think "outside the box" so to speak. Time and again K-Salaam and Beatnik do just that. This new project is going to be craaazzzy.
If you are going to do a remake, you gotta do it right. This was solid... nice new-school feel without losing Marvin's unreal essence. |

WOW! If this was original, it'd be an instant classic...
This is pure talent; it’s a completely different song to fit Marvin Gaye’s vocals, so you can tell there was work behind the remix and not mere opportunism. Exquisite production! |

This beat is great, but to me it just doesn't fit with this song. To me this took some of the emotion out of the original song. But I'm givin them their props for even TRYING to remix classic soul, let alone doing a pretty good job at it. This is gonna be a good album. Overall, this isn't bad, but it's not great either. I like the original better.

Well, remix an old school song then! I'm all for it! Marvin Gaye was a legend, and the production puts that classic soulfulness right back out there for the young heads to get a chance to appreciate, whether they dig that style of music or not.

I like the production and how he sings separately, but I don't like them together. Anyway I think the hook is way better than the verses!
