J.Y. - We All Good
Artist: J.Y.
Producer: Fortunate Ones
Album: The Slave Shift: Waking Down
Label: Unsigned
If you’re anything like me, you’ve been lying awake nights, wondering, “Is J.Y. doing all right? Sure, he’s been making some great music, but is the grind getting to him?” OK, now that I’ve typed that all out, that seems a little strange – but, even if you don’t share my semi-bizarre level of concern for the Jersey native’s well-being, you’ll be glad to hear him and his colleagues confirm that “We All Good” on this newly-leaked mixtape inclusion. Making its world premiere here in the Booth, the record finds the Fortunate Ones manning the boards, serving up some moody, synth-driven boardwork as J.Y. explains that, though his path has been beset by struggle from day one, he’s still “ready for whatever” and determined to make it to the top. New West representative Nipsey Hussle and Motown mainstay Young Scolla assist on the guest tip, delivering their own hard-hitting accounts accounts of the hustle (and, in the latter case, showcasing his vocal chops on the hook). If this gritty motivational banger leaves you craving more, you’re in luck: sponsored by DJBooth.net, The Slave Shift: Waking Down is set to hit our mixtape page for free streaming and download January 18.

For me, this is a nice step up from J.Y.'s last featured record "Little Maria." The production suits both J.Y. and guest Nipsey Hussle very well and Scolla impresses on the hook vocals. If you had never heard of one or any of these artists before, you'd be hard pressed not to take notice moving forward.

Like the sound on this one, JY has a unique style over this crazy hot beat. The sound is super official! The powerful vibe here could stack this record up against a lot of major artist material. Good look!

Solid Hip hop track here. Nipsey's flow was impeccable over the beat. Scolla had a banging verse and off course J.Y. was on point. Banger

This is definitely a solid track. I wasn't feeling the production as much as everyone else, especially when it gets too cluttered during the hook. Nipsey's verse is dope, the others were OK (too simple of a flow cadence on the last verse). It's worth another spin, though.

Everything just fits together so perfectly in this. I dont see in fault in this record. The production is great from Fortunate Ones. The chorus is a nice, catchy listen. J.Y. really had great on point lyrics on his verse. Also, having Nipsey in this was a great addition to this. He had a great flow on the beat in his verse. This is a very solid record. A banger for sure.

I think its a nice song. This is the first time I have ever heard of J.Y. but an impressive track. Nipsey Hussle verse was nice to me. Young Scolla did his thing too.

Dope track, I agree the beat gets a little convoluted at the hook, I'd like to hear the CDQ though, see what's really goin on. Bumped it twice though, accolades.

I really like the verses and the production, but it all fals apart for me as soon as the hook comes in.
