Eight albums over 15-plus years in the game and you’ve still got the streets hanging on your every syllable? Now that’s what I call Power. Today, New Orleans veteran Juvenile returns to electrify our eardrums with the lead single off album number nine—a cut which finds him collaborating with Mannie Fresh for the first time since parting ways with Cash Money. Perhaps inspired by the Booth-acclaimed remix of Kanye‘s single of the same title, Fresh looks to German electronic group Snap! for sample material, flipping 1990 smash The Power into an head-noddable uptempo backdrop as the New Orleans spitter exults in the trappings of success, crowing “If you ain’t sitting a hundred million you ain’t livin’.” (and cogently observing a few lines later, “Power makes a n*gga show his arrogance”). In between the headliner’s braggadocious verses, Maybach Music general Rick Ross grabs the mic to deliver a highly abridged account of his rise to high-rollerdom: “Born in the ghetto, now a n*gga in mansion.” Does this single leave you feeling fresh and energized? If so, more Rejuvenation awaits on Juvenile’s latest album, set to hit store shelves and online retailers Dec. 3.

This is the first Juvenile record I have heard in quite some time (we are talking years now) that I've really enjoyed. Mannie does great work behind the board with the Power sample and Rick Ross is a fitting choice based both on his vocals and the theme of the record.

I'm glad to hear Juvenile back once again. Production on here is pretty cool. I like the sample and Juve did his thing on the chorus. I like his flow on this track. Rick Ross ripped this. Banger material right here. I hope the album is all like this.

This is a great song for Juvenile to build off of. Glad he's still working hard. Smart move putting Ross on the track too...

I'm glad to hear Juvenile and Mannie Fresh together in the studio. Pretty track too even though I have heard better from Juve lyrically. Ross was decent too. Not quite sold on the hook.

Quite a catchy song but nothing overally memorable, have to say Mannie Fresh's beat bangs, juvenile sounds great over it.

Juvenile has always been a strong rapper. Listen to his music from the past decade, you know, the shit that no ones listened to. It's all good as far a Juvenile's rapping goes. He just never worked with decent producers so the music itself sounds terrible. Juve never fell off. He just lost his supporting cast, and kind of disappeared in the background.
The production is great as far as beats and samples. Melody maybe needs to change up a little more often. Juvenile can still rap. Rick Ross is an excellent support. It also seems that everyone has something nice to say about this track, but nobody has the balls to give it 5 stars. |
