In a mere five days, Justin Timberlake will be unleashing the highly-anticipated sequel to his March junior set, The 20/20 Experience. Like its predecessor, the LP is guaranteed to burn up the Billboard charts, moving hundreds of thousands of units in its first week. Before J.T. was the Platinum-certified pop juggernaut he is today, though, he was… well, a slightly younger pop juggernaut, emerging from the ashes of N’SYNC. While his solo success was never in question, Cry Me A River, the second single off 2002 debut set Justified, did more than any other track to establish his style and set him on the path to total domination of the music game. Co-written by the artist and Scott Storch, the record features Justin saying his bitter goodbyes to an ex-girl (cough, Britney Spears, cough). Behind the boards, Timbaland exhibits the creativity and eclecticism that would come to be his and J.T.‘s calling card, incorporating synths, beatboxing, Arabian-inspired string parts and even Gregorian chants into his beat. Director Francis Lawrence‘s official visuals see Timberland playing against type as he steps into the shoes of a jealous lover with obsessive, voyeuristic tendencies.
