With his last feature, sweeping love ballad When the World Ends, Justin Garner garnered rave Booth reviews and a number of comparisons to a certain pop superstar. If this newly-leaked album cut seems even more Usher-esque than WtWE, there’s a good reason: Producer Soundz originally intended Runaway to appear on the R&B giant’s forthcoming Monster LP, but the demo didn’t reach his A&R in time to make the cut – thus, the beatsmith offered Garner the rights. Needless to say, Justin does the Clutch-penned ballad justice and then some. While the lyrical theme isn’t a new one, Soundz’ low-key but propulsive piano-laced instrumental and the singer’s soulful vocals shine, and the end product is both catchy and heartstring-tugging. Justin Garner’s debut full-length, The Breakout, has yet to receive a solid release date from indie label Street Customs. Keep it locked to the Booth for all the latest!
