Looks like Justin Garner‘s gotten into a little trouble with his girl since last he stepped into the Booth. On the lead single off his forthcoming EP, a track penned by the rising R&B star himself, Garner recounts how a Criminally seductive shawty broke through his defenses, stole his heart, and caused him to stray from an otherwise-perfect relationship with his main girl. Fidelity may not be Garner’s strong suit, but, as the Southern buzzmaker continues to prove, soaring vocals most definitely are. Backed by Dominic “Tic Toc” Bazile ‘s dramatic, string-drenched production, the singer pulls out all the stops, delivering enough falsetto-fortified melismatic runs to convince even the most suspicious female of his sincerity. If this sweeping R&B scorcher strikes a chord, you won’t have to wait long for more new material from the Booth-approved crooner. Garner’s latest EP, Sound of My Heart, is scheduled for release next Monday, the 12th.

Justin Garner has a bright future ahead of him. "Criminal" is just another example of his crisp, airy vocals and range as an artist and songwriter.
The production work was nothing new in the R&B/pop ballpark, but Garner makes it his own and turns out a wonderful album track (not sure this would be a radio smash). I could see Ne-Yo doing something like this.

Ah, the Tiger Woods anthem, it's about time. On the real, this one surprised me a little bit. Garner's vocals are on point and the production is on point. If Jason Derulo can be a radio smash, why can't this?

Solid songwriting that requires lot of emotions and Justin Garner delivers on that front, giving vulnerability and power, whether he was singing lower in range or stretching out notes. The arrangement sounds so dope with the soft piano playing in the background and the synthesizers kicks in chorus was a nice touch.

In my opinion the song was great, but as soon as it went into the chorus/hook it entered the "over production" part of the song, there was too much going on, that it took a lot away from the verses. I enjoyed the majority of the song but as soon as it hit hook it was like a usher song that just had way too much going on for it. So far from posting it seems like a lot of people enjoyed it, and I did as well but it lacks the potential of being a big hit say like Bobby Ray's "Nothin On You."

This song deserves it's own rating. A 4.5. The voclas by Garner are incredible, and the beat supports him. Almost a 5 stars but not quite.

This my s***! Finally a real vocalists is back in the game. Has it been so long that we've forgotten what REAL music sounds like? No autotune, no voice work, and he's CONSISTENT. I've listened to every song on here, and they are all dope to me. Rotation!!!

I like the vocals. Beats not bad either. There is a weird synth sound in there that is turned down kinda low, but sounded kinda like static for a second until I listened a little closer and realized it was in the song. Good job Justin Garner, I await the album.

Garner's talent is undeniable after listening to the track, however, I'm just not a fan. The concept of the song is original and a nice change from today's mainstream. There's been a lot of talk about the production falling short of Garner's talent but it reminds me too much of Keri Hilson's Energy. I think I would like the song better if it were sang by a girl but it has a definite pop appeal the way its been mastered.
As my first introduction to Garner it most definitely leaves me curious for more but what is with the last :18 of the song?? It reminded me of a sound bed used for a eery scene in a movie. Love the name of the album and the way he's singing on this track real sounds like he's singing from the heart |
