Julian Marley - Violence In The Streets ft. Damian Marley
Artist: Julian Marley
Producer: Stephen Marley
Album: Awake
Label: Ghetto Youths
The more things change, the more things stay the same—it’s been nearly thirty years since reggae icon Bob Marley’s untimely passing, but the political, social, and economic struggles he spoke about in his music remain. Now, three of the legend’s sons have come together to craft a cut that addresses many of today’s hot-button issues while remaining firmly rooted in the genre’s tradition of social criticism. On Julian Marley’s latest single, he and his brother, Damian Marley, unweave the spiderweb of influences that contribute to Violence In The Streets, touching upon everything from the institutionalized prejudice that contributes to unemployment to the fat-cats making their fortunes flooding hoods with firearms. Stephen Marley backs his brothers’ passionate vocals with a classic guitar-organ groove, complete with spacey dub flourishes. Awake, Julian’s third studio album, drops on the 26th of May, and fans can also look forward to the June 23rd release of Distant Relatives, Damian’s genre-bending collaboration with rap icon Nas.

Members have been clamoring for more reggae, reggaeton, and dancehall music. Not that we have featured some great work by the Marley brothers, there is minimal feedback. Interesting...
All around a nice effort. Nothing I have not heard before and all three are capabale of much more as artists and producers. |

Big Ups to the djbooth crew for featuring more reggae. This is the kind of reggae i like. Good old school, not the dance hall stuff. Anyway, this a cool track right here. I havent heard a damian marley feature that i didnt like. Never heard of Julian before but he was pretty cool too. Banger

Being that my pops is 100% Trini, I have been blessed with Marley music since I was an infant and I can recite at least 50 songs from him word-for-word; This track definitely brings me back to the vibe and lyrics of the fallen soldier Bob Marley. The beat is right on and the lyrics are hot. Easily a BANGER for any real reggae fan!

Music must be the family buisness over there. Nice lyrics, legit reggae for sure. The music was really nice but his singing got a bit repeating to me at one point. Cool subject though.
