As is the case with anyone in a Position of Power, Juice has been the subject of a great many Rumors, some true and others decidedly not. On his brand new mixtape single, (premiering exclusively at DJBooth.net), the self-proclaimed “New Breath of the West Coast” takes the opportunity to set a few things straight. Over Strawberry Letter 23-esque bells, the Phoenix native makes it clear that he’s got no beef with his musical mentor, The Game, and that he’s still with Black Wall Street. The “Arizona crown-holder” ends the musical interview (the samples are taken from a recent discussion with Rhyme and Reason Radio) by letting everybody know that he and his business partner, Suns power forward Amar’e Stoudemire, are angling to start a national movement, and that he’s planning on dropping a debut LP very soon. In the meantime, fans can look forward to to the February 17th release of Juice’s Position of Power mixtape, as well as checking out his exclusive interview with DJBooth’s own DJ Z.

I've never heard of Juice. Beef and stuff? Who is this guy? This is what I feel. Beef is irrelevant unless you are relevant. I don't know...that's just my opinion. That's like dudes who beef in my city (who have no deals or any potential fam).
But this joint was kinda hot. I guess maybe this record will make people want to hear more from him, cuz he sounds sincere and the joint kinda name and situation drops enough for you to get interested. |

I can really see why he's on Black Wall Street, he sounds like the Game. The interview excerpt, his raspy voice, and his rhyme style are all reminiscent of "the big homie." This production was nothin special, but it was street and I was feelin it. I definitely am interested in what else we'll hear outta Juice.

Juice is both provocative and engaging. His vocal delivery is solid and his swagger - damn, that word again?- is always in full effect. The production here does nothing to impress me and the splicing of the audio clips gets annoying after awhile, but overall this is a solid effort and another reason everyone should cop the new mixtape (2/17).
Shouts to JUICE for the premiere of 'RUMORS' at DJBooth.net! |

kind of sounds like a less ghetto Cashis song. Juice is good no doubt, and im hoping to see him and Game in concert soon. But he needs to release an album, not a mixtape.

Seriously, this dude is real. He has a purpose in the delivery of this track. I think he tells the story and answers some perhaps looming questions very well. I dig the beat on this too. It sets the tone for an "I'm about to spit some real ish on this track, so listen" kinda vibe.
I also liked how he said he didn't want to fade in The Game's light like Jay-Z Memphis Bleek - LOL - that was pretty funny. Now, I probably won't listen to this again just because there is no hook and I just heard his story. I don't think I need to hear it again. But it was definately dope! |
