Things hyper-talented NYC singer-songwriter Josh Xantus doesn’t care about: Having an easily pronounceable last name, conforming to the haters’ wishes and losing his pride if it means getting back a special female. Things John Xantus does care about: releasing quality music like new single I Don’t Care. Impressively, Xantus recruits a duo of hip-hop heavyweights to lend a hand, starting with Boston super-producer Statik Selektah, who crafts a smoothly riding and of course soul sampled beat, and ending with Wu alumnus Ghostface Killah, who’s his usually hilarious self (“Ain’t no other chick that can make me com[cum]….fortable” ) on two guest verses. In fact, Ghost’s presence is so pronounced that at times Xantus’ soft singing makes him sound like a guest on Ironman’s record, but no matter how you slice it, the result is some damn good music. If you’re like me and care about hearing a full-length project from Xantus, (semi)bad news; his upcoming album, Can I Live, is currently unscheduled. But your boys in the Booth will be sure to share the good news as soon as we get it.
