The 160th entry in our DJBooth.net Freestyle Series comes courtesy of Josh Clemons, a Californian up-and-comer who recently introduced himself to the game with his much-buzzed-about Zero Budget mixtape, the first in a five-part series. On his brand new, exclusive This Is Josh Clemons freestyle, the currently-unsigned emcee flows over a Kane Beatz-produced instrumental originally featured on Lil Wayne‘s Steady Mobbin. Clemons is currently preparing for the May 11, release of The Installment, the DJBooth-hosted follow-up to his debut mixtape.

Readers can download a copy of In the Booth (Volume 4), featuring exclusive freestyles 91 through 120, here! Volumes one, two and three are available for download here, here and here. Watch for Volume 5 to hit our front page in late May.

Some real solid production right out of the gate. Definitely catches my ear even before you heard John get on the mic. A very upbeat - high tempo song, something I would put on my gym mix or even listen right before I play basketball.

Josh handles the track really well and spits some ill lines. I think I even heard a Jason Derulo shout out in there. Really wish the freestyle would have been longer. It won't take away from the score but I would have loved to hear the song keep going for another minute or so. Keep it coming Josh.

love the tiesto sample, blends perfectly with his style.

Everything worked perfectly, no flaws as far as I could tell. this is what I call a freestyle, production had me from the start but the lyrics really stole the show. there was more than one memorable line here.

Props to Josh Clemons, he showed he can spit.

wow solid beat something he can lay verses on its real hypnotic and should be classic if done right.

its good stuff he really lays down decent lines and puts in some hard punchlines i like what he did here but still he was out shined by that beat. theres gotta be a line that should be addressed when it comes to ryhming over certain beats and how you aproach it. you want too out shine not be out shined by the production but you also dont wanna sound lazy on the keyboards over all though real solid effort.

3 spins

Damn, when I heard the production from "Goin'In," I knew this was gonna be nothing short of dope. His flow was pretty good, especially since this is the first time I have heard from him.

I admit, this was a very short freestyle and because of that simple fact, it really keeps me from being able to measure his individual talent as an MC. Good effort from him, nonetheless.

Damn. This shit is hot.

@TheBayToLA, I agree with some sick as metaphors. Makes an English major jealous for sure.

Delivery is supreme. But then again, this song being a short freestyle does hurt Clemons a bit. As RyanSx mentioned, it is a bit hard to judge the man's talent solely on this alone.

Nevertheless, a lovely freestyle.

Always loved the production even on Lil Wayne's version...I mean not the most unique choice of track to freestyle over but still nice to hear a different fresh approach to the song. Josh has some catchy lyrics and I just wish he would have went at it a little longer cuz it was less then 2 minutes. Not the best lyrically but he makes up for it with some good punchlines.

Fine effort! Not the most consistent freestyle (bar per bar), but he definitely tries to be fresh with his metaphors. So dats a good look but there is room for improvement. Rotation-Stuff!

p.s. I should have rewarded his first feature, "Hey You", with four stars. Its on heavy rotation. Yeah, the hook may not be delivered to our likings but it was well-written and once you get the hang of it, just too catchy NOT to sing along to!

Mehh is my initial reaction. I have to disagree with many and say he doesn't own this beat at all. The content was worth a repeat but I agree with Mr.Top Hat that he wasn't consistent.

The track was sprinkled with lines that were set up for a giggle and one or two ok's but nothing thought provoking.

Damn always loved this beat, but Gucci and Wayne both sucked on the original. Josh Clemons has a nice flow and wordplay. Looking to hear more from this dude.

As some of you have expressed, I too would have liked this freestyle to be a bit longer. As a short intro to Josh, however, it serves its purpose. But, if you want a larger sample size, I recommend listening to his upcoming Booth-sponsored project. The kid has talent.

Haaaa that condom line is halarious...the booth brings out the damn mastas in a MC because er'thing is always concrete..droppin anvil lit on ya head! Im feelin it, but whomp whomp to cuttin it short, he could've spit at least 10 more bars over that ill beat but still clap it up for the booth

Overall, this kid has good flow to him, the Cali kids know how to do business in this game. He's got good lyrics and he is clearly talented. Must be good in English class because he's got some sick metaphors in his raps. Want to hear more from this kid in the future.

"Steady Mobbin" is one of my favorite beats from last year if not ever. I can't help but be somewhat disappointed by Clemon's effort/energy on this. Even Gucci ripped this beat.

BTW to people that think if this beat is original, it's not it's from Lil Wayne's Steady Mobbin song. As for the freestyle it's really good, because of the metaphors. I really liked what i heard.
