Josh Clemons - Hey You
Artist: Josh Clemons
Featuring: Freck Billionaire
Producer: Misfitz Soundz
Album: Zero Budget: The Installment
Label: Unsigned
Josh Clemons is a man who knows exactly what he wants, and doesn’t hesitate to chase after it. On his latest mixtape leak, Hey You, the Los Angeles rapper spots a female who looks unhappy with her fella and goes straight into pickup mode. While I doubt that most guys could get away with addressing a shawty as “You with your ass out,” it’s hard to argue with the smooth, pop-referential game Clemons and his wingman, East Coast high-roller Freck Billionaire spit over Mizfitz SoundZ’ luxuriously soulful chopped-sample instrumental. On the back end (pun not intended), the headliner realizes the female in question has more to offer than a nice posterior: “There’s something special about this one / I don’t get bored when she talk; I actually wanna listen.” Complete with a catchy, lightly Auto-Tuned chorus, Hey You has a vibe reminiscent of a certain Degrassi graduate‘s female-oriented breakout smash – needless to say, there’s considerable hit potential here. Fans can hear more from this promising up-and-comer on his forthcoming Zero Budget: The Installment LP, set to drop on 4/20.

Am I the only person who says "Oh... hey... you" when I am spotted by someone I know, but haven't a clue what their first or last name is? Please say no. Anyways... I like the song, but I cannot say the same thing for the hook. It seems they start off heavy with the Auto-Tune and then back off slightly. Either way, I would have rather heard a dope hook singer (Colin Munroe comes to mind) do the duties. Either way, the mediocre hook isn't enough to sour the laid back, old-school vibe and three well-spit verses.

A song this good is one of those few good songs who doesn't need the help of a hook.

After looking at that pic I had to shout out Tommie Smith and John Carlos. If you don't get it, Google that ish.
Anyway, I could have done without the auto-tune on the chorus (it doesn't work with the organic feel of the song) overall I was digging this track. Clemons' has my attention. |

I agree with Z I am not really feeling the autotune on the hook. This song has mad potential though.I like everything else about it though. If he gets a vocalist to sing the hook this song can take off

This song is catchy and funny, love the hook, unlike some of you I like the auto-tunes, nice bridge for the old-school track, but keepin it up to date. Loved it, I give it 4 snaps in a Z formation...
