It’s only been a few months since last we heard of smooth crooner Jori King, on the DJBooth-approved Promise, but he’s been at it with no lunch breaks and is back in the Booth with a brand new promo single. This time around he’s planning on transcending his novice status with Lift Me Up, a catchy pop ode to drugs and swag; just kidding, lyrically it’s actually a more traditional R&B joint purely for the special woman in his life. With an uplifting production from E-London that rides on a smooth base line and enchanting strings, the Cali native does what he does best, showing listeners his vocal range and ability to freshen up radio rotations. While this exclusive premiere might sound a bit more toned down than his earlier entries, there is no doubt that the Sacramento-based singer and songwriter is progressively honing his craft, which I can’t help but commend. If you liked King’s wooing of the ladies (shout out to The Princess Bride), be sure to keep a lookout for more from the young buck here on our heralded pages.

Man. Constructive criticism here, cuz i am a real fan. Theres somethin missing in just every song he does. I didn't like the hook in "Our song" (King's best in my opinion), i think it was really just because it was too simple. "Love at first sight" seemed kind of sad to me haha. So that could be attributed to the beat i guess. "touchy feely" is just not on the "kind of stuff i listen to" list, so yeahh. I don't know WHAT i don't like about "promise" but there is something... and i just didn't like the lyrics of "lift me up". this is an absolute shot in the dark, but it kind of feels like King spends soo much time on HOW he's going to sing things, and not enough on what he's singing. Overall, not a bad song here, I just leave listening to every Jori King song thinking "man if he would have just done ________ better, this would be a real good piece of work.

I've liked this guy since I heard that Valentine's Day song "Love At First Sight". This one is decent, but it sounds similar to everything on the radio. Jori has potential, this song just sounds a bit dated. Try experimenting with different producers and trying out new sounds.

I'd like to think we stay away from featuring music you should "stay away from," as if its the bubonic plague, but to each his own (see Caveman). The song is fundamentally sound (go listen to Kiss FM), but predictable. Jori's vocals are light and airy and work well on the ears, just not sure this will get him noticed for the talent he possesses.

@kCopes Thanks a lot for the constructive criticism! Really appreciate it; as far as the comment about spending too much time on "how" I'm going sing things, it's actually the complete opposite! I spend more time thinking about concepts that all different ages can relate to. Most of the people who heard "Love At First Sight" get a "happy" feeling from it, so that's the first I've ever heard it making anyone sad, but I don't think it's a bad thing at least it made you feel something! Lol either weay I haven't been doing this long, working on a year and a half and I still have a lot to learn; so I appreciate the support and feedback! Don't give up on me! Haha

im a big fan of jori, 'love at first sight' is my favourite but i still like all the others, including this one. i may not listen to them all the time but when i am with my girl, or thinking about my girl there is no one i like putting on better than jori. his songs have a sincerity in them that i dont hear a lot of in r&b these days, all that r. kelly bedroom stuff, sometimes you need to go back to a love song- jori does and he delivers, lotta respect for him and his talent

Not a bad track. Jori shows he has talent, but this seems a little bland, it doesn't have that "wow" factor. I feel like he would be great for a chorus or as a feature. He needs to impress me a little more as a solo artist. Nonetheless, I am interested in following King's career. It's also cool to see an artist on here responding to reviews, it shows he really cares about his music and his fans.

The production was pretty solid (violin ending was a nice touch) but just wan't getting into it, no breakdown or anything. Keep up the good work though.
