Jordin Sparks - I Am Woman
Artist: Jordin Sparks
Producer: Ryan Tedder
Album: Untitled (TBD)
Label: RCA
Being a woman in today’s society ain’t easy; females have to work harder for less pay than men, they’re held to outrageous standards of physical beauty… oh, and they get to carry tiny human beings around in their bodies for nine months, before pushing them out in a painful process that can take hours. I mean, damn. Just in time for Mother’s Day, Jordin Sparks returns with I Am Woman, a new single on which she encourages ladies to stand proud, and fellas to show their appreciation. Here, beatsmith Ryan Tedder sets a fittingly bombastic mood behind the boards, blending hi-impact percussion with dense synth-brass fanfare as the Battlefield singer celebrates female empowerment, boasting of her awe-inspiring looks and daring dudes to try and spend even a day in her shoes (of course, she’s rocking stilettos, so most wouldn’t even be able to stay upright). A worthy sentiment, to be sure, but does it all add up to a hit? If you’re leaning towards the affirmative, be sure to tune in for Sparks’ live performance of I Am Woman on this Thursday’s episode of American Idol, and keep it locked for details on the her yet-untitled third album.

I love this, it has high potential. Seems like she is going a slightly more Urban route with this one.

Her message is bull$hit. Do what "like we can"? She's talking about being a whore the whole time and then asking for respect. Stilettos, master the art of atraction or something or other and then say yea. Wiz Khalifa already did it.

Shoutout to fantasy wifey, Jordin Sparks. She got all sexy, and now she's back with a smash! It sounds like she's taking a more urban lane with this project. I say, IT'S ABOUT TIME. In my opinion, this is a way better "Women's Anthem" than Beyonce's "Run The World". The intro and production had a slight Janet Jackson "Control"/"Rhythm Nation feel, with a new-school mainstream pop twist...
She needs more recognition, with the Beyonces and Rihannas, 'cuz she's just as talented, if not more. It won't hurt that she's a super hot bombshell now as well. HEADS WILL TURN! I respect all of you guys' opinion, but this is the best non-ballad single Jordin has ever put out, and I can see it being big. @DJ E-Na, I don't know where you gathered that she was talking about being a whole. You just sound like a woman-hating type of character. Judgment? Yes. Prove me otherwise though. It's a women's empowerment song; aimed at the things so many women do to be as sexy as they are. I hope this brings her due recognition. She's always been dope, but the shallowness of America's music industry caused people to overlook her, maybe because they didn't see her as a sex symbol like the others. Well, now she has both packages, the talent and the visual appearance. It should be a great year... |

Mike Dreams no no you've got it all wrong. I love women, respect women, and believe them to be my equal.
Now other than being sexy what is the main message of this song? I'll give you some time.....it is now 8:23pm... I'll listen to this song while we wait... i can't bear this song anymore 8:26pm Yea i couldn't figure out anything else either. I'm just saying seriously look into her words and think about the message you know she's trying to put across. Does it achieve the desired goal. No. 1 star for a $hitty song and failing to even put a good message across |

I am sorry but this song is boring. I am trying to get into it but I cant seem to get past the fact that we have heard this type of song from all the urban pop stars nowadays.
But, its catchy and will appeal to the general audience. |

I'm not sure if this will shoot up the charts, but overall it's not too bad.

What's happening DJBooth? I am not a woman, but this is a catchy pop hit to start the summer. I was wondering where she was but I see she is in good hands.

This is not woman empowering, this is a LAME attempt at radio play. It'll probably be the theme for the WNBA season though. Which is probably all she wanted. But it's still Hella Lame!

The production is pretty solid, but Sparks doesn't really wow me. It's a sub-par radio song at best.

wearing stilettos is a choice. and not a particularly smart one. Being woman could mean NOT fitting every stereotype and expectation.
she has good energy. Sweet girl. not sure this track does anything special. I am surprised Tedder cam up with this. |

LOVING this. Like MH said, this is so much better at the female empowerment anthem than 'Run the World'.

If lyrics mattered, sure, it wouldn't be the top of the charts....But neither would Gaga, Michael Jackson or Def Leppard. But for fun, catchy, get-your-body movin', it does the trick. I like this direction for Jordin. She CAN sing, although not showcased here. Not as hard as Beyonce's girl power song, but I think this is pop dream. Not sure others will agree with me. Go Girl!

I like the track. I just wish less electronics was used. Jordin's voice is beautiful without the electronic tweaking.
