It’s been quite a while since last we heard from Jon Hope (eight months and 23 days, to be exact). If you’ve been um, hoping to hear more from the Rhode Island native (and exclusive freestyle series alumnus), your wish has been granted – today, Jon’s back in the Booth with new single, Which One, the very first release off Statik Selektah‘s new Show Off Digital label. The heavyweight DJ/producer, of course, mans the boards, superimposing a snippet from Trey Songz’ hit single I Invented Sex over an uneasy, minor-key chopped string sample. For his part, Hope is as lyrically audacious as ever, kicking the track off with the words: “Which one of y’all is the second and the third? ‘Cause I’m the first.” and proceeding to boast his way through two vivid verses. With an old-school instrumental groove and plenty of laid-back lyrical intensity, this cut seems like the perfect Booth comeback for Jon Hope, and an auspicious start for Selektah’s label – what do you think, readers? If you like what you’re hearing, keep it locked for the latest from both Hope and Show Off Digital.

The snippet he took from Trey was clever. He has good verses. I wish that people didn't hop right to the main artists on the update and take a minute to listen to every one, they're all worth it. The verses on this one are really good, but I don't know if the Trey Songz part really fits for me. But I really like the verses so I'm going to raise it to a banger.

I saw Statik on the production, so I knew that would be straight. This is the first I've heard from Jon Hope. I like his sound. Good verses

Good to hear Jon back at it again. Rhode stand up!

Damn, Statik made that Trey Songz hook sound like an old school soul sample, and Hope more than matches the production with some ill flows. Hopefully this is just the first of much more Jon Hope to come.

Just listened to this track 3x in a row. The production is reminiscent of mid 90s wu or mobb deep. Never heard of Jon Hope before this, but the man is ill. Classic track.

Damn which 1 is predator or prey, gaurd ya track Trigga cause Jon went in on and around that hook, did it mad justice. His verses are sick and the beat is dope as hell. I need more from this cat, ipod would be happy to ingest the flyness that is J Hope!

Not really feeling Trey's sample on this. Beat is alright, nothing special. His flow and wordplay on this was nice.

The instruments doesn’t have much range, but the strong and steady drums grabs hold of the listener from the start and never let’s go. I really like the rhymes on this, but I really didn’t care for the chopped n diced sample as hook, didn't sound quite as natural as I had hoped it would, with some incongruous and artificial effects on the Trey's voice in original. It does not destroy the song for me, but it did seem unnecessary and rating kinda suffers.
