Fresh off a series of label switches culminating in his recent dismissal from Island Def Jam, Johnta Austin is currently hunting for distribution for his myriad forthcoming projects, including shelved debut album Ocean Drive. To this end, the A-Town native has released a brand new single.  Pondering how to liven up an on-the-rocks relationship, Johnta decides to Take It Back to the day he and his woman first met and danced together; if he can recapture that feeling, the rest should go smoothly.  Johnta’s rhythmic vocal patterns, along with Jermaine Dupri‘s smooth, piano-driven beat and a Do or Die-esque rap on the back end, add up to another catchy, laid-back hit.  Take It Back should go a long way towards convincing labels that Austin’s a wise investment—personally, I still believe that, when Ocean Drive is finally released, it’s gonna do big numbers on the charts!

It's been what...almost three years since Johnta dropped "Turn it Up"? Talk about patience. I really like what Jermaine did on this record. He brought the mood way down to a mature, classic tempo. Reminds me of Usher in his prime.

This track is pretty smooth. Johnta Austin sounded good over Jermaine's production. Rotation for this track.

I feel like a broken record making the same comment on 2 consecutive tracks, but this production is just beautiful. It's real smooth, perfect for R&B vocals to glide over. I'm not normally a huge fan of these slow, chill R&B joints, but this track had me from the begining. Johnta's vocals are very nice and nicely displayed, and the melody keeps the track interesting. I love the rap on the back end, perfectly formated to fit this track.

Johnta has a strong, yet soothing voice that sets a comfortable mood throughout each song ... The switched-up flow on third verse is a good addition, production on point ... Banger right here...

Austin is a better songwriter than he is a singer and Jermaine is a better producer than he is a rapper, but that doesn't stop them from both "breaking out of that proverbial box." I like this. Each complements the other with their talents.

Urban AC, meet Mr. Austin.

JA has some heat in his arsonal. My two fav from this cat have to be, "Turn it up" and "Patron". I'm not sure why his solo career hasen't taken off like some of the other son@writer/producers turned sin@ers have, like NE-Yo, Dream and others. This track is nice as well. Not sin@le potential, but could add to the vibe of a solid Album. By the way JA if you readin this, My mom thinks you have the nicest house she has ever seen. I didn't see the episode of cribs, but I hear serious thin@s from my queen, so props to you!

I'm excited to hear from Johnta Austin. He's a great producer/songwriter and i loved his song "Turn It Up" even though it didn't get any attention. The production def attracts me right off the bat. I get a smooth/sexy vibe from it. At some parts I'm really feeling it then there may be a part or two where my vibe is messed up, but then it comes right back. Vocals are good and lyrics/theme are quite common. I'm not sure if this has single quality or not. I personally like it and if it came on the radio I would listen to it and I'd prob request it, but as far as everyone else I'm not sure. This would def be a song for the older crowd. The youngens won't be into it so I guess its up to the "grown folks" to make it a hit or not.

This is almost perfect, for what it is. There is no annoying vocals or production. Not the most catchiest but extremely soulful and smooth. A great RnB track. Johnta deserves all the success he receives.
