Johnny Polygon - LIMOSEXSUPERSTAR
Artist: Johnny Polygon
Producer: The Argonauts
Album: @*#$! Gun
Label: Unsigned
If just about any other rapper released a song titled LIMOSEXSUPERSTAR, you’d know exactly what to expect: a dope, hedonistic, but ultimately disposable jam celebrating the perks of fame and fortune. You can count on the cynically perceptive Johnny Polygon, however, to show you the dark cloud behind every silver lining. The latest single off the Oklahoma repper’s forthcoming, long-delayed studio debut, this moody jam finds Polygon highlighting the ennui and numbness that all-too-frequently accompany celebrity. Over The Argonauts’ chilly arpeggiated-synth production, he vividly depicts a life dominated by “cocaine and amnesia,” switching between his trademark deadpan flows and surprisingly smooth sung bars. The moral of the story? “The loneliest place in the world’s the center of the universe.” While Polygon’s debut set, the hilariously-titled P*ssy Gun, has yet to receive a solid drop date, we’ll be sure to keep you supplied with all the latest news and tunes leading up to its release. In the meantime, you can still stream and download the emcee’s last project, the Wolf in Cheap Clothing EP, for free in The DJBooth.

Polygon is amusing when he rhymes, but it works for him so well because he doesn't take himself too seriously. His oft-kilter, half-rapped/sung flow is all over the place while being straight edged at the exact same time. Its hard to explain, really. Just listen, and if you're a little weird - and we all are - enjoy.

This is very different. I like it... this had me smiling all the way through. Nice computer-sounds in the beat and his flow switches like 50 times on here. Nice versatility by Johnny Polygon. BANGER $hit!!!

After seeing the YouTube video of Johnny performing this song live a few months ago I really started to anticipate the release of this song, but this CDQ version just falls flat. It's a little bit duller when compared to the live version. The end product just ends up being nowhere near as special as I originally thought it would be. I really enjoy the style of Johnny's music, but I hope he really steps up the quality of his releases in the future to stay relevant.

Tech N9ne style rip at 2:25? I could be wrong but that's what came to my mind.
I have listened to the song about 5 times now so I guess I like it, but for some reason I don't want to like it? |
