You all know I am big a fan of artists who take chances. Bigger the risk, the bigger reward (as they say). Enter John Public. When I invited him to be a part of the series, I didn't say anything about using an old Jimi Hendrix record to flow over. But, Public did anyways and I must say (outside of K-Beta using Radiohead) this is the most unique and creative freestyle in the history of our series.
Dope listen, John. |

Using that Jimi Hendrix instrumental was a risk, but a good one. John Public has a nice flow on this and kinda reminds me of Beyond Belief with his flow.

Assisted by Jimi Hendrix, this freestyle was pretty cool. John can spit and Jimi's guitar play is always welcome.

The guitars good and all but I feel like it needs some "bump". Still, solid freestyle. 2.5

nothing harder too freestyle on when the instrumental has no base do follow along with within the beat and this guy finds it or atleast attemps too, so even though it doesnt completley go together its still mad tight and he basically goes in on this track with punchlines on end of ryhmes that keep you into the hook till the next lines.
way slick good job 4 stars |

In my opinion I think the risk he took wasn't for the better. His flow seemed out of place with the production. And the guitar seemed just to overpower him at times. I also felt like he wanted to rap faster but the production didn't allow him to use that to his advantage. Anyhow I know he can rap as his lyrics are pretty good...so maybe we get somethin better from him next time. Sorry but this crossover risk failed.

We both heard the same track, but @RLTskillz and I came to opposite conclusions. I was really feeling this - when's the last time you heard a flow over a blues track? Ok, so it's not a "banger", but for originality alone it's on repeat for me.

I’m not really liking this one much. I’m not sure why, but there’s just something about this that rubs me the wrong way.
Without a doubt, a fresh and creative entry in the Series but that's all. |

Creativity is what gets artist recognized (and good looks along with good performance), and John Public has all three. He's something you don't see everyday. He combines rap with old school blues (i love :). His flow is nice, though it could use some works. Overall, he's gonna get some plays on my ipod and radio.

Nice attempt at something original. For me, some parts just feel unnatural and forced to make it work over the guitars.

This is one heck of a freestyle over an amazing jimi hendrix record.
They say life is about taking risks and thats what exactly John has done and has pulled it off. It is one of the most exceptional and incomparable freestyle's. |

Okay when I say Jimi Hendrix in this title I was like wtf, i don't know if any rapper should jump onto his chords. I don't really like this song at all, but he didn't did bad. I had more fun listening to Jimi's guitar in the background than him. Hendrix should be left alone unless somebody can perfectly make a crisp fire song. Until then leave it alone.

Sounds like a REAL freestyle and that's hard to pull of specially to such a slow beat. Give him props.

I found this off the cuff and made a profile just so I could say...
WHOOOO! If you aren't feelin this then go back to momma's house and ask for more pancakes. Ill verse over a smoothed out Jimi line? I opened my windows and put it on blast. Next thing I know I got 250 neighbors swayin under my window. PROPER! |

Given that this is a freestyle I think what he did with Jimi Hendrix's guitar playing was really really good. He took a risk doing this, and in my opinion it paid off for him.

He did a great job over the hendrix track, It's gotta be hard to flow over something like this, and still have your flow keep the attention from the guitar, but he did a good job.
