This Friday DJ Ted Smooth is going to release Retox, a project that mixes classic Dr. Dre beats with new verses from various artists. On the latest Retox release, Smooth taps Joell Ortiz to rhyme over Dre’s Keep Their Heads Ringing while the DJ adds a little Notorious B.I.G. on the chorus, creating new song I Tote Guns. Joell has been Mr. Guest Feature over the last couple of years and with his raps over this track, it clearly evident that it is always a wise choice to bring on the Bronx Bomber. Frankly, Ortiz makes listening to the record interesting enough that Dr. Dre’s lyrics don’t run through the brain simultaneously while listening. It’s going to be interesting to see who else Smooth has tapped for this project, what beats he uses and what vocal samples he intertwines with each beat. I guess we’ll just have to wait until Friday…

But you really need to bring it lyrically if you set your self up with something strong like that. The verse is nice, but really I keep listening to it for the remixed beat and chorus. I'd play it for a freestyle battle with friends at a get together. 3.5 stars
