True emcees know that they need to create a triumphant joint that gives consolation to all the underdogs fighting for position. Hard-knock joints like J. NiCS’ Road to Riches is exactly one of those joints. On the second leak from the upcoming album, Champion Rizla, (see previous feature Slumber) the Miami-native prepares new listeners with a natural rhyme style that lyricists all over the country should identify with. In fact, J. NiCS is damn nice, dropping “flows that resemble Pepperidge Farm” and turning Road to Riches into an anthem for concrete-stompers who still want a sweet reminder of something promising. With Numonics securing the production, using light effects and piano to over a soulful loop and bass, a non-traditional sound for most producers out of South Florida, this is one hard knocker that doesn’t need orphan Annie on the hook. For more from NiCS be sure to check out Road to Riches’ video accompaniment, playing right now on DJBoothTV, and give Champion Rizla a home on your iPod February 1, when it lands on our homepage.

Its hard being a new artist. You want everyone to like your music, but not everyone likes everything (did that make sense?) So, what is your best bet? Well, I suggest following J. NiCS. The man clearly knows what lane he is most comfortable driving in and excels at it. And it helps when you have Numonics riding shotgun.

This isn't as great as his first feature "Slumber" I gave that song 5 stars. But Road to the Riches is still a dope track nonetheless.
I don't like southern hip-hop artists at all except for Jay Electronica. But I'm definitely looking forward to hearing more from J Nics. |

I only was recently introduced to NiCS music, but in that time I've already become a real fan. As Z said, the man's crafting his own sound and he's sticking to it.
As long as we're here, "I don't like southern hip-hop artists at all except for Jay Electronica." - AP_ALL_DAY_28 That's an insanely large blanket statement. You don't like Outkast? You like NiCS, but not a Big KRIT or CyHi or MayDay? Maybe if all you listened to was radio, but actual hip-hop heads should know the music coming out of the South is as diverse as the music coming from anywhere else. |

First thing... the production is solid. A Chicago resident myself, i must say the beat got a midwest feel to it. Yet its comin out the south? huh? Real nice beat....Plus I never heard of J NiCS before, but he puts it down real smooth like. Damn good MC. Only complaint is that its a bit short. Other than that.....Good track to chill to.

He can't be stopped : ) One of the best relaxed flows I've heard since Freddie Gibbs, production is absolute fire intensity! More, please?
