For everything Jim Jones raps about – ballin, girls, coke, more ballin – the self-proclaimed King of Harlem knows and respects the history of the game he currently plays, and on Jones’ new track Wishing on a Sucker MC, he shows that respect by teaming up with Run DMC co-founder and hip-hop legend Rev Run. Produced by Run and Cass & Dubbs, the track’s beat is clearly influenced by Run DMC’s early days, and in a way Wishing also serves as an homage to the group, with Jones adding some contemporary lyrics to resonate with younger fans as well as paying tribute to a true hip-hop icon: “Hey Run, it’s still your house.” For his part, it’s good to hear that the Rev can still sound fresh, though I wish one of the two emcees added another verse to the last two minutes of the track, which is just filled with some female vocals. Wishing is the first leak off the Ghost of a Rich Porter Mixtape, which currently has no release date.

Jim Jones had surprised me with his depth over the last couples years (could we call him the most improved emcee of the past two years?) and while I'm not a huge fan of this track, I definitely appreciate the old school respect. In rotation.

I've never been a huge fan of Jones as an emcee and I have often wondered how he has grown such a gigantic fan base (at last check Jones boasted about 1.4 million followers on Twitter). But, I must say I was impressed with this record.
Long time hip hop heads who don't like Jones lyrical matter these days will appreciate the old school mentality and approach. Rotation. |

When Jim Jones tries to rap over other's beats, or conform to the rap game, he flops horribly. When he does his own thing, his flow works and his lyrics have usually meaning.
REV RUN RAN THIS TRACK! I didn't expect such a flow out of him. Very impressive. Check out Diggy's mixtape. It is surprisingly good. |

Suprisingly not bad. Jim kept it clean for the Reverend i see. i'm not mad at the mash up either. It's Run who's tha standout here though. This is his best verse in the last 10-15 years!!! Peep...

Wow a Jim Jones track thats actually descent!!
Beat is very simple but it's old schoolish which makes it hot!! Rev does real good.... Three Rev verses would of made this a banger.... |

I don't like Jim Jones but this was a good performance for him but he’s blown away by icon Rev Run. Sounding every bit as fresh and sharper than ever. I like the use of Rose Royce sample on this, and throwback vibe that just makes you feel good! Rotation fa sho!

The beat is great and Jim Jones might be the most inconsistent MC of the decade. He was very good on this, Rev killed it. He made the song for me. This is a banger.

This production is SICK! Jim Jones sounds decent on here. His flow hasn't been the same since Max B left, but he is getting better. Rev Run can still lay it down on a track. The Bridge is sick on here...Nice track. Easily into Rotation.

Not a Jim Jones fan, I clicked on the link because of Rev. Run, and I wasn't dissapointed at all! It sounded to me like these two guys got in the booth, Rev Run pushed Jim to the side and said to him "Don't worry bout it, i got this" I'm glad RR produced this one and JJ finally toned down a bit. Banger all the way
