One of the benefits of writing for DJBooth is constantly being introduced to new music. UK singer and hit-song writer Jessie J is frankly news to me, though that makes me feel a little off my game. How could I not know about the woman who has penned songs for Alicia Keys, Miley Cyrus, Chris Brown and countless other A-list voices? For her first DJBooth feature, Jessie is stepping out on the solo tip with Price Tag, a new single featuring ATL’s B.o.B. Jessie is vocally stunning here, with skills wedged somewhere between her fellow Englanders Joss Stone and Lily Allen, with the tongue and cheek lyrical appeal of the latter. Producer Dr. Luke creates an easy going, guitar laden track while B.o.B spits typically high quality rhymes about how the value of music cannot be measured in dollars. No doubt about it, Price Tag is a feel good record you can’t help but sing along to. If Jessie J’s upcoming album Who You Are is all this good, we’ll not only be humming the songs she’s written for others, but singing along to her own priceless music.

I passed on the initial round of e-mails talking up Jessie has the next big pop sensation... my bad. The girl can write records like nobody's business (Ne-Yo, you have proper company), her voice is unreal, and her charisma is undeniable. Get ready for the radio to play Jessie J for years to come. Seriously.

Im predicted that this song will be on the radio really soon. Everyone is gonna eat this up!!
Jessie has such a amazing voice. She can really sing. And having B.o.B. on this is straight genius. He kinda disappeared for a while. And his last record was horrible. This is a great come back. And i cant help but absolutly LOVE this song. The production from Dr. Luke is nothing less than amazing. This is a BIG RECORD. A banger for me, no doubt. |

Haven't really heard of Jessie J either, but like "Z" was eluding to it wouldn't have been long before i had heard of her. She's gonna be very big, very soon. The kind of music-style that the radio will eat, eat, and eat again the next day for leftovers. Plus she has an amazing voice that was born for recording. And having the rising star B.o.B. on the track is only gonna grab more listeners. Great song looking to see what else Jessie's gonna come out with. Also she obviously knows how to pick producers.

not gonna lie, i usually am greatly disappointed by female rappers. only reason i clicked on this was cuz B.o.B was in it....but im lovin her voice. she sounds real good and...dare i say it...has some decent flow. B.o.B definitely sounds boss on this, expected. i wanna say 4.5 but i cant say 5. solid track all the way around.

I've only had Jessie on my radar for a few weeks now, but in that time she's already become one of the strongest and most unique voices I've heard in a minute. I'd like nothing better than to see her gain some traction in the U.S., and this might just be the record to do it.

the songwriters behind the smash hits are always overlooked, so whenever they step into the limelight its almost a feel good story. She really does a great job on this song, I could definitely see it in rotation on pop radio stations. Dr. Luke has been putting monster hit after monster hit out, so i got excited when i saw he was attached to it. I was a little disappointed with this beat-that chord progression made me roll my eyes. But B.O.B did what he was supposed to-add a short, concise verse that will get Jessie J a little exposure. Good job over all.

Even though I'm British I have to also admit I haven't really heard of her, apart from recently of her offering of 'Do IT LIKE a dude'. But I have to say lyrically it was ok but a bit of a cop off and annoying
this somehow justified her talent more to me and B.o.B's contribution made the sound of the track refreshing |

Alright now. Love the vocals and the lyrics/message of this song. Production is awesome, it's fun and pop-y but still has real substance. Jessie J's got talent and the B.O.B. feature brightens up the track even more. Looking forward to more from this girl!

Wow... This is sweet! That ska/reggae feel is pretty cool, it's gonna get hammered on the radio in Australia 100% (I hope i don't eat my words). BoB was good as usual. Production is a 10 for me. The song topic is not original but it's better than singing about putting your drinks in the air. The hook gets abit on the annoying side towards the end of the song but that voice, what an angel... To my ears anyway...
It's 4 stars now but I have a feeling it's gonna drop to 2.5-3 when the radio get their hands on it. |
