Jesse Scott - Hey You
Artist: Jesse Scott
Producer: Laze & Royal
Album: Promo Single
Label: Monopoly Music
Psst… Hey You! Yeah, you with the computer, browsing DJBooth.net. I’ve got a song that you might be interested in. On his latest promo single and first Booth feature, Oklahoma City-bred, Los Angeles-based up-and-comer Jesse Scott proves that a fella doesn’t need to be a smooth operator to pick up girls on the street – as long as you’ve got the self-confidence to walk up to a female and say something, you’re golden. Backed by the summery acoustic-guitar boardwork of Laze and Royal, the artist showcases his unusual brand of game-spitting, dropping lines like “It’s hot, so that’s why I’m sweaty / I’m sorry if I’m messy, but I’m Jesse.” Does this rising star have what it takes to win you over? If so, keep it locked – though this cut is, as mentioned above, just a promo single, you can rest assured that we’ll bring you all the latest leading up to the release of his in-progress debut full-length.

Anyone else get a cooler, younger Everlast vibe on this one? Do our readers even remember Everlast? Jesse's voice isn't anywhere near as gruff as Everlast, but the country/rock influence is there.
Real catchy. Whats next, Jesse? |

This is definatly something that will be stuck in your head but not necessarily something more. Sounds to country to me. And honestly, I HATE country.

I'm a sucker for these summer jams. Jesse puts in a solid performance lyrically and the chorus strikes the fine line between catchy and tedious. Overall, the track works.
'Nuff said. |

This was just an alright song. to me it sounded a lot like outcast. It also had an interesting genre if I had to categorize this music I would be confused as to where to put it.Its not pop and not rock and definitely not rap

This isn't one for the club. It's really easygoing and laid back. The guitar-based beat isn't something that's seen too often, so it was kind of refreshing. They're not overbearing once the bass kicks in though, so country music haters need not fear.
The lyrics are pretty amusing, and I like his laid back confidence. I chuckled a couple of times, and the lines are well delivered. I'll admit I played it on repeat for long while. It's great, relaxing background music, but I know that some aren't looking for background music, so keep that in mind if you're looking for keepers. Definitely check it out. |

first of whats wid dude's hair..looks like racoon has permanent residence on his head..but enough with the hating.
this dude's style reminds me of Shwyaze which is a good thing cause i like that folksy meshed with HipHop sound. his lyrics are funny enough to keep me listening through the whole joint. but i still can figure out if i like it or not. i guess ill just keep it in rotation till i sort my brain out |

Nice laid back song. Its fun, its summer. You can easily sit back and just chill to this without thinking too much.
I agree this could easily find a place at the top of the charts if its given a fair chance. With the guitar adding variety and Jesse having fun on the song i say its a keeper. |

I think the production is what catches everybody off guard...I could see B.O.B. easily on a remix of this if it ever were to happen. I think B.O.B. in this song would make this a hit. He knows how to tell a funny story that's for sure...and the hook isn't even that bad. Now I definately won't be jamming out to this but if i hear this again it wouldn't be a bad thing.

Doesn't sound like real hip-hop but it will do, kind of sounds like Jonas Brothers mixed with rap.

Just to start off, the dudes hair is a bit out there, but hey to each his own.
The guitar on this one plays well with his verses, definitely a laid back song for the CuDi generation. Almost has as summer feel to it, could see it being played on the beach or when driving with the windows rolled down. Some of the lyrics are really funny too. Another really upbeat song that just puts a smile on your face. This could be a real hit with the proper radio play. Good job Jesse, keep it coming man. |

This production is the highlight of this song. Jesse Scott is alright, but doesn't offer enough substance to keep my attention. Regardless of whether or not this is just a fun summer jam, it doesn't have anything that stands out besides the beat. 2.5 stars

I LOVE THIS SONG!! I've heard other songs by Jesse and let me tell you guys this guy has only JUST begun!! You can't place him with any one genre because he's so unique in his own right! It's not country, it's not hip hop, it's not R&B...it's Jesse!
From your #1 Fan De...can't wait for this song to hit the airways in Atlanta!!!! |

Hey...Could've been better without listening to you. It is catchy, but not what I enjoy listening to. The guitar does help the song, but the repetitiveness of the guitar gets annoying.

This is just bad. He rhymes the simplest words in his verses. The only thing half decent about it is the hook but this is just not up to par for me.

For real? Dude got the weakest rhymes I've ever heard, and I cant remember saying that for anyone.Radio will probably like this crap. If "Blah, Blah, Blah" can get play, this in comparison should be winning awards.

Not a bad effort. I think the beat is okay. I think he has alot of potential though. Because of his unconventional style I think his next release will be creative and unexpected.

Good work Laze & Royal. Production instantly grabs you thanks to the fantastic drumming and melodic guitar strums; all strings ring clearly. I agree, the diction used does not require the listener to go fishing for a Webster's but its simplicity what keeps this effective and engaging with very simple material. But its kinda track that will lose its appeal after a few spins. As for now, Rotation fa sho!
"Hey You! Yeah, you with your a$$ out" >>> "Hey You! Yeah, you with the Tattoo" ^^ A better pick-up line. Do you agree @Richard ?? :p |
