Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning actress, American Idol finalist and the third Black woman ever to appear on the cover of Vogue magazine, Jennifer Hudson, born and raised in Chicago, has that rare combination of true talent, beauty and grace that makes her new single Special stand out in this world of studio divas. This song is just like its subject matter: strong, restrained, topical and uplifting. With a cameo by Papoose, Special is a melodic refutation of Don Imus’s radio slur. It’s an affirmation of our uniqueness and heals the way other songs inflame.
i ant like papoose’s rap!! kinda lame 2 me! am i da only one dat respects j hud 4 who she is but couldnt stand 2 listen 2 her on a whole cd? dat @*#$! would kill me cuz hu voice is jus so strong! no im not hatin jus sayin she not really made 4 mainstream radio..
I think Jennifer Hudson should just keep acting cuz I think she’d be more successful doing dat. About the song...didn’t like it! The beat was screwed up, she sounded old, and papoose raps was lame!
AS FOR ME, I’VE NEVER REALLY LIKED PAPOOSE SINCE TOUCH IT… SO THIS SONG KIND OF MAKES JENNIFER HUDSON LOOK BAD...JUST BEING IN THE SONG WITH HIM. IF SHE WERE ALONE AND THERE WAS A DIFFERENT BEAT, IT WOULD BE A MUCH BETTER SONG.
Its art imittating life there was a scene in “DreamGirls” where Curtis tells Deena why he chose her to sing lead he tells her that Effie’s voice was too powerful to cross over into the pop charts while Deena’s voice had no identity. As harsh as it sounded he was right. We see it in this song which is a total flop it seems like it was rushed. It appears to be something thrown into the fire to keep the Jennifer Hudson train rolling. In my opinion it was a foolish move that may hurt her career in the long run (you only get one chance to make a first impression) and stop the momentum that she has built up through “Dream Girls” The right thing for her to have done was to step back and actually put some time and effort into her music. I am a true fan of Jennifer and I still marvel at her talent. I wish her the best in all her endevors and hope this is but a bump in the road on her, hopefully, long lasting career.
The topic of this is dope, but this is very disappointing. I clicked on this expecting a banger. Jenny and Papoose are good at what they do, but this simply didn't cut it for me. But as for Fresh21's comment, are you smoking? What's poppy about this. And quit complaining about hip hop sounding poppy. That's the dumbest word and accusation ever. Pop music means whatever is popular. If it happens to be hip hop on the top of the charts, so be it.
