What’s Jeff Chery been up to since the late-March arrival over his long-awaited (but well worth the wait) Going Against the Grain mix-album? I’m glad you asked, because the answer is, like, totally cool: the ATL-based emcee has been hard at work on a collaborative project with fellow reader fave K. Sparks, his partner on reader-acclaimed cuts like For the Taken and No Competition. Semi-ironically considering the title, the inaugural leak (making its world premiere in the Booth!) finds Chery flying solo. The Pair in question are actually women – two pairs of women who turn out to represent two pairs of kicks. Over P. Haze‘s mellow, dreamy production, the ATL-based rapper showcases his game-spitting abilities, all the while internally pondering which of the ladies/shoes in question he’d ultimately like to settle down with. Though a little convoluted in concept, it all comes together nicely in execution. If you’re digging this creative cut, keep it locked for the latest on Chery and Sparks’ collaborative set, which has yet to receive a title or release date.

You often hear people (I am sure myself included from time-to-time) refer to a song as a "throwback track." Throwback to what, you ask? Probably as far back as they can remember themselves listening to hip hop. So...

For me, this is a total throwback track. The P. Haze production reminds me of something you'd hear from early Tribe Called Quest. On the mic, Chery doesn't try to do to much. He plays to the strength of the song - the laid back vibe - while staying true to his witty self.

Very bland track. Subtle and smooth production but very forgetable. Verses were ok as well.

Real cool, laid back track and as always I enjoyed his simplistic, yet witty wordplay.

Let me get my slight note of negativity out of the way first. Hook needs work.

Ok, moving on. Great call Z, this def has an old school Tribe vibe, in that it's got soul. Once again Jeff Cherry delivers on the verses; it's only a matter of time before the man's making major noise nationwide.

Hot..I can never find anything bad about Jeff and he scuffs out some creative words for the masses! Dig the production, puts in mind of Lupe!

Jeff is a very versatile artist and this track along with many others that he has released in the past year are proof of that. This track, while not the best, was still good and will probably make the cut for my MP3.

I prefer when Jeff raps a little faster. This track seemed as though it lacked a little bit of energy that could have really pushed it up to that next star. Production was boring, there I said it. Very listenable song, but it won't receive hundreds and hundreds of plays.

This is very different than the last club song with Ray that was on DJBooth. I love this song though. Def a "throwback" old school hiphop joint. Jeff does a swell job on it too. Not the best old school hip-hop but darn well fr this kid. Good job my man.

Much much better than his last few tracks, for me. I agree hook isn't all that but gotta love that mellow old school flavor.
