The rap game has a tendency to chew unwary artists up and spit them out, but Jeff Chery knows for a fact that he’s made of sterner stuff than the average emcee. On Fearless, the first of two exclusive world premieres set to hit the Booth prior to the release of his long-awaited Going Against the Grain mix-album, the rapper formerly known as Pay$0z informs fans that, as far as he’s concerned, nobody in the industry poses a threat to his hustle. Producer Jimmy Chiba mirrors the artist’s determination on the production tip, serving up a tense, spacey synth instrumental with a few well-placed vocal samples. Not seen in the Booth since summer ‘09, Harlems Cash jumps on board for a pop-referential middle verse, and singer Kalaj Dame rounds out the lineup, tying it all together with some studio-enhanced hook vocals. The steadfast mindset J.C. exhibits here is sure to take him far; those interested in accompanying the rising star on his journey to the top can hear more on GatG when it hits our front page March 23. Jeff AND Harlems called me last week to tell me how excited they were about this record. I was excited that they were excited, but I didn't want to overhype a record before I got the chance to listen to it myself. Now that its in the Booth its time for me to express that its acceptable to be excited. While some might find the hook slightly annoying, the high energy verses outweigh any vocal shortcoming.

Damn this was tight. Production set the tone from the beginning and Chery killed it. Hook was solid and there's a message with the song. Banger!

The production on this track is epic portraying a clear definition of what it means to be fearlessness through the eyes of a hustler. From the samples metaphors and verses we the listeners gain the image of the struggles and pains the artist has seen in his life. Being a freshman listener to this rapper, i can see he has a lot of talent; the only issue i have with this song is the fact that the auto tune is extremely repetitive and annoying.

When I see damn near everybody on this page giving this track 5 stars, I pay attention. After listenning to it, I could see why most of you like it so much but this track is not my groove.

Cherry has a knack for taking tracks that could be aggravating in the hands of other rapper (thank baby jesus Gucci didn't get his hands on this beat) and turning them into legitimate bangers. My head's nodding right now, and I can't stop it.

jeff has been very impressive lately, ive been enjoying his recent work and this was no exception. jimmy chiba's beat sounded kinda futuristic which was the element that made me pick rotation over banger. solid though

Although I highly enjoy Pay$0z's previous works, his last few cuts aren't quite vibing with me.
To me the joint is unnecessarily all over the place to the point of annoyance, and it runs for much longer than it needs to. I'll pass. |
