For free 99 Jean will beat 99 acts down? Sounds like a deal, huh? Jean Grae is one of the best lyricists of our time. No, not just one of the best female lyricists, one of the best lyricists period, regardless of gender. Ranked, she has to be in your Top 20. You just can’t deny her talent (as hard as some may try). Just like she so often does on Twitter, Greasy goes on a rant-page with her latest offering, CaseBasket. Kicking off the festivities is producer Boogie Blind (last seen on our pages for Pharaohe’s Clap), who laces a boom-bap centered beat with complexly layered sonic elements. Lyrically CaseBasket comes, of course, packed with punch lines, random wordplay and an outro rambling that includes a Rudy Huxtable reference and plenty of marzipan. Wait, marzipan?! Ha! This is classic Jean. Ahead of a currently untitled full album coming this fall, Jean Grae is dropping her Cookies or Comas mixtape, dropping right here on DJBooth on June 23 and featuring the likes of Pharoahe Monch, Talib Kweli, Royce da 5’9” and many more.

This what Nikki Minaj should aspire to. Grae is able to rap off the wall, with out sounding like a fool, a skill Minaj has yet to learn. Grae is too tough.

Can't wait for the mixtape. DJ Drama should help get JG's name out to the (semi) masses and show people that there is actually more than one female rapper in the game. JG is def in my top 10

Jean is one of my favorite femcees. She's been really quiet lately so I'm glad to see her back. The only bad thing about the song was the production. 3/5
