Jean Grae - Bridge
Artist: Jean Grae
Producer: RJD2
Album: Year of the Blacksmith Community Mixtape
Label: Blacksmith/WMG
Amongst the recent battle of the femcees and the onslaught of Nicki Minaj’s overhyped musical workings (yeah, I’m on that side), I got to wondering when I’d actually hear a talented woman on a hip-hop track who wasn’t singing the hook. Well, Jean Grae has once again proven she’s one of the go-to emcees of either gender on the brand new leak of her slow burner, Bridge. Thankfully, Grae doesn’t spazz out with alternate personalities on her tracks, choosing instead to keep it simple and soulful, using legendary Def Jux producer RJD2’s mellow techno mix to relax the mind, enabling listeners to better let Jean’s relationship breakdown lines seep into their ears and brains. Thank you god, I was in need of some music like this after being forced to endure the radio for hours on end. The best part is that she’ll be joined by some other dope friends on the upcoming Year of The Blacksmith Community Mixtape, which will hopefully arrive soon after a few other approved leaks (see Spread My Wings). So sit back, chill out, and enjoy this bridge to the holidays. Happy Thanksgiving Booth Nation.

I think its a pretty nice song for Jean Grae. I have not heard from her in so long I was wondering if Kweli dropped her from his label. But anyway hot music from Jean Grae. Very soulful

Reworked RJD2 beat? Either way, Jean comes really soulful on this one. They make a good combination, hopefully there's more tracks in the works.

I dont usually comment on songs. I follow DJBooth Daily to stay on top of new artists and tracks, but I felt like I needed to comment on this one. I really enjoy this track. It's very different from much of the mainstream music that is out there. It isnt a track thats going to gain Jean Grae spotlight unfortunately. It doesnt seem like too many soulful songs hit mainstream. But honestly, this is an amazing track. Totally smooth and soothing. It really transforms you into another universe. Absolutely great song. Props to RJD2, production is smooth. Nice track all around.

Any day with new Jean Grae is a good day, and when it sounds like The Bridge, it's a very good day. I prefer my Jean a little more angry, but her flow fits perfectly with the RJD2 beat here (where's my copy of "Magnificent City"?).
It's that real real rap. |

Jean's one of my favorite female emcees, I love the tracks she did with 9th Wonder. But this is another banger for her.

A new Jean mixtape???? 2011 is looking good for music, new mixtapes from Jean Grae and Nikki Lynette. I wish I could fast forward past the bullshit that the radio & tv will be shoving down our throats to promote over hyped crap. Not just Minaj, let's not pretend she is the only overly hyped person in the hip hop game right now. My only criticism of Jean is she never drops shit for the radio. People LOVE Jean, she could be a contender. She's still the truth though...a problem of mass proportions. She and Lynette are the illest girls doing it right now, hands down

After about an hour of listening to random guys rapping its refreshing to hear a woman thats actually talented. Though, not one of her best...still very listenable and an overall pretty good track
