As the newest R&B singer to sign with J Records, 21-year old Jazmine Sullivan has quite the summer ahead of her. Going with the typical ‘pining over a lost love’ ballad route, the Philadelphia songbird quickly turns her regret into resolve, telling her ex-man “I Need U Bad.” In Sullivan’s corner is the iconic Missy Elliot, who delivers a smooth, relaxing beat that is similar to past work with Monica, Mya, and Keyshia Cole among many others. As the summer heats up, I Need U Bad might just be the perfect remedy for a frosty, bitter relationship hiccup. Check back in July to see if this one produces some fireworks…
A solid roots reggae beat on this song. I can definitely blast this track during the summer while tipping back some Red Stripe. I can't get Lauren Hill out of my mind when I listen to this song, I don't know why. I would never expect a production like this from Missy. Big up to Missy for this tune.
If you’re into reggae (feelin that bassline in your chest), you’ll love this. If you’re not, then it should make you become. It’s interesting actually that A_NAY mentions the CHORUS as the best part, cuz that’s exactly what you’ll like the most if you’re also not into reggae: it suddenly turns into a regular R&B joint. I’m IMPRESSED with the production coming from Missy Elliot! Very good and complex, but maybe the transition from verses to chorus could be less abrupt (some instruments come in, some go out and you can hear a vacuum, like out of place for a second). Jazmine’s voice is distinctive, NICE VOCALS! Melody and lyrics are a PLEASURE TO LISTEN.
uuhhm i dont really like dis type of smooth reaggae its borin n makes me want to go to sleep. this does have a Lauren Hill feel to it. dis songs ok not to high in ma book.
polykween91: OMFG!! U TOOK DA WORDS OUT MY MOUTH?!?!?! she really does remind me of lauryn hill mixed wit a lil shareefa....nice strong voice, but i hate da way da song keeps switchin up tho...if dey change up sum things it could b a 4, but rite now ima give it a 3...look forward to hearing more of jazmine...
J Records is making a BIG push with this girl; I assume they will be very pleased with the feedback thus far. Nice voice + pretty face = popularity = sales.
I love the musical change in direction in this song and definitely am feeling her powerful and mature sounding voice. Philly be putting out some real soulful singers. Always have to give a lil extra for singers that write their own material and lets be real she's a banger too.
Lauren Where you at! I miss u so much. Jazmine can sing her butt off. She is a looker too. The beat is Fire. I think we may have something here. I wanna hear more from this young lady.
LAUREN HILL!! reminds me of ms hill and that's a huge compliment...the beat is trite (listen to 4 roots, reggae, or dance hall beat), the production is average at best but the voice carrys the track very well
This track is sick. I'm a fan of reggae, but this is not a bias comment. This track is tight.
Official track. Missy killed the chorus part of the beat. The overall beat has been reused many times.
This song is definately jive hot!! No question puts you in mind of Lauryn Hill, but hopefully she can define herself after this single. I am definately feeling it!!! The switch in tempo also works here if you really know music u get it!!
I'm totally a reggae head. But for those that aren't this isn't too reggae to enjoy. Her voice is phenominal and I really think this track will do it big on the radio. I'm ready to hear more from Jazmine.
it might be unoriginal but she should have stuck to something contempary, about 2:11 into the song sounds the best, really not felling the carribean vibe.
In the beginning this song sounded close to Lauren Hill Sweetest thing with reggae beat. Decent track, not sure how I feel about missy screaming on track tho
luvn the reggae beat, luvn the lauren/alicia feel from this song, yup works well .good trak. ive never heard of sullivan b 4. and first impression is great i hope it goes well !!! missy will take her far i hope !!
ire sis'...dreads and heads alike should spin this...reggae doesnt get much air these days tho'...the lauren hill comparisons, is that a good or bad thing?...dunno
love the song..
her voice is madd unique and beautiful..she's so much diff than alot of what we have and sumthn new and jst what music needs right now..not knockin the greats like beyonce and mariah..but it's nice to see a new face and hear a new sound.
the first time i heard it I was like.. .Lauryn? is that you? her voice is seriously SICK, and captivating. I was so drawn the first time i heard this jam on the radio. And so excited when i saw the video on 106 for the first time.
this is 10 times better than some of the crap they are playing on the radio now. just sent it to 2 of my jamaican dj friends and they love it. what FIRE u go girl missy your the best hun
