J Records sent singer Jazmine Sullivan’s debut record, Need U Bad, to radio on May 26. A little over two months later, the Missy Elliot and Lamb produced single is a Top 5 record at Urban radio across the country and has been a fixture on DJBooth’s R&B chart for the past 10 weeks. What does success in a short amount of time mean? Ah yes, a remix. Jumping on board the reggae-tinged beat is Mr. Paper Trail, T.I., who opens the new version with some creative wordplay about his relationships of old. As for the vocals from the 21-year-old Philly native, they are unchanged from the original. But, as they say –whoever it is “they” are—if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. Sullivan’s currently untitled debut album will be released sometime later this year.
i dont like t.i. on this beat. thumbs down. jasmine is nice though reminds me of lauryn hill. is missy really considered for a feature she pulled a diddy and just talked. anyways the song is good, the original is better. WAY BETTER
I am really clueless here. Jazmine's original single has been charting on our site for 10 weeks now. She drops a remix that is unchanged, with the addition of a brand new T.I. guest verse, and the ratings drop? Any who can explain why please please please comment or e-mail me. Thanks.
this sucks, straight up it was good as an original but if your gonna feature someone to spit lyrics on this Reggae beat, why not use a reggae artist! she jacked the beat but took it one step to far.
I guess someone at J Records thought a remix was necessary...they were wrong. Need U Bad has all the elements of a radio hit..this remix does not. But there will be more to come from this future star from my home town! She is a sing/songwriter and very talented at both. She has a song called "Season 2 Love" where she just blows it up! Great vocals.
Z, I think I have the answer for you. We all see "Need U Bad" as a "chill" song for the Urban AC market (on my local station of V100.7, it's a perfect choice for their "Quiet Storm" block). The reason why not too many people like this remix is because the remix brings too much energy to the front (kinda like the video). You can't blame T.I. (his flow is trying to be laid-back)-I'd say Missy's more at fault for the overused ad-libs (when her production set the soft mood for this). If I had planned the remix, I'd have made that a duet with Mario (also 21 years old, also signed to J Records, Baltimore's not too far away from Philly). If they'd insisted on a rapper, I'd have picked Cassidy (also from Philly, also signed to J Records, gets deeply creative on his verses). But I give it a 3 anyway because I LOVED the original. Look out for Jazzy's new album "Fearless" currently set to drop September 16-the girl's got skills, and is a big part of the future!
P.S. If Michael Hannah (bka Young Son) is reading this, I think you could make your own remix (you've handled "Tattoo," "Bleeding Love," and "16 At War" wonderfully-I trust you'll do the same here). Just something to consider.
Man, the original was untouchable. I commend T.I for being versatile and everything, but I think this song really didn't really need a remix. I mean, it actually did....but maybe with a different rapper. I could've heard Kanye serving this up really nicely to make it a classic. But as Z is saying...nothing much has changed from the original (which was fire), so I'm keeping the rating at 4 stars.
Once again, what are you talking about fam? Did I not say that I respected T.I for the verse, but really didn't think it needed a remix. That's what I'm telling you. Just because you are a fan of a rapper, get off his nuts. Stop just liking everything just because it's T.I. That's dangerous fam. That means your favorite rapper could say something you really don't agree with, but you'd cosign anyways just because it's that rapper. My favorite rapper is Kanye West, but I don't condone or cosign everything the man does or makes. I look at each individual song or situation separately and make decisions based on that. C'mon guy. Get real.
T.I made dis wack but dont get me wrong dis shyt go hard down here in G_VILLE and i am a big fan of T.I but they should have not made a remix to this song.SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!
