Jazmine Sullivan - 10 Seconds
Artist: Jazmine Sullivan
Producer: Salaam Remi
Album: Love Me Back
Label: J/RMG
Good music comes from the heart. But sometimes great music comes from throwing furniture around and doing some good ol’ fashioned venting after a messy departure from a significant other. On 10 Seconds, Jazmine Sullivan’s second single (the first was the Booth approved Holding You Down) off her forthcoming album, the peerless crooner channels her inner Mary J. and puts her foot down, as well as gives the boot to her ex. Frequent r&b hitmaker Salaam Remi does well to create a slow, soulful beat that holds up to Sullivan’s impressive vocal range as she hits just about every note imaginable on the song, moving from soulful to diva in a span of less than two bars. While making a split is hard enough, this song should help you on your way to getting like Stella (you know, your groove back?). If only every breakup had such a sweet soundtrack. If you liked this no excuses anthem, be sure to keep a lookout for her latest project, Love Me Back, hitting media shelves November 2.

I've heard from several people lately that the Mary J. vs. Jazmine Sullivan comparisons are both unfair (to Mary) and completely off base (not in terms of style or substance, but rather effect in the listener). I tend to agree, but in a way that isn't a slight at Ms. Sullivan. She is her own artist and, once again, she proves as much on this new single. I loved her debut and I am anxiously awaiting her sophomore effort.

Any Mary and/or Lauryn comparisons regarding this woman should only be received positively. She has the talent to back it up. By the looks of it, she received the Mary J. Blige cosign on that "Holding You Down" remix, so it's obvious that Mary embraces this new young talent. Now that is how a legend is supposed to react to something like this; unlike what Lil Kim did regarding Nicki Minaj.
I've never purchased an R&B album in the my life. I haven’t really been into post-2000s R&B too much, because the 90s is where it’s at for R&B, but you better believe she will be getting my money on November 2nd... |

This is perfect. Jazmine Sullivan NEVER dissapoints. She is the modern day MJB/Lauren Hill, not that they are dead or anything, but she Jazmine is the newer generation. This is soulful.

Off Jazmine's first album I only listend to Need U Bad, none of the other songs really caught my attention. But this album really seems like it's going to have plenty of standout records. Jaz's voice is so soulful and even with very little production effort can just carry a song. Salaam Remi's production though was great, perfect song.

Vocals are hot as would be expected from Jazmine but not her best record. I feel like this song is lacking something needed to really stand out. Love her as an artist... but I wanna hear something original & captivating like Need You Bad; Lions, Tigers & Bears; Bust the Windows or Where Did You Go.

Right now there's Jazmine Sullivan and then there's everyone else. She's just on another level. Goddamn this is a nice record.
And for the record I'm perfectly fine making Jazmine and MJB comparisons. They're both strong women with extraordinary voices who make real and emotional music. Mary's got a touch more grit, but where's the controversy? No one's copying anyone else, why can't they both just be great? |

Im loving this song even though Im not sure I like the message. About the Mary J/ Jazmine Sullivan comparison, I have to agree with DJ Z. She is her own artist. But I think if she continues to sing on this level she can potentially have the same success as MJB.

It’s always pleasing to the ear to hear good music, however this isn’t Jazmines’ best work

Jazmine strikes again. The comparison to Mary is a compliment in my opinion. Jazzy is absolutely killin it right now, no one else can showcase raw emotion on a track like her.
@Mike Dreams, that will be money well spent man, her last album was crazy too. |

I enjoyed the nod to "I'm Goin' Down" by Rose Royce. This production suits the power that her vocals can pack. She's so much better than the slackluster R&B category that she's consistently placed under.

This girl is killing me softly, she (like mjb) can speak to women and abot womanhood in an authentic way. I believe she knows what she's talking about, and her song writing is the ish

Overall this is a pretty solid song, I like Jazmine, her voice is unique with that scratchy sound.. almost like she is pushing her vocals to the limits the lyrics are cool, but it sounds like something we've heard from her before.

Jazmine has incredible vocals and this song definitely proves it. I wish this song would have came out when I was going thru "HELL" with my ex! It definitely would have been my soundtrack to getting rid of his azz.

This is a classic. This is a great record. A very nice listen. Jazmine did fantastic in this. She will be big. The prodction from Salaam Remi is a lil boring but also a perfect fit. Good job and good luck Jazmine.
