In recent years, Jay-Z‘s earned a reputation as a “trend-killer,” contributing to the demise of jerseys as a hip-hop fashion statement with a line on What More Can I Say and, more recently, taking aim at Auto-Tune on the controversial D.O.A. On Blueprint 3 track Off That Hova tackles a few more trends that have overstayed their welcome—baggy clothes & chains, Timberlands, and big rims notably fall under his crosshairs—over a beat by Timbaland (the thriving producer, not the near-extinct trend), collaborating with Jay for the first time since the rapper’s “retirement.” What’s going to replace these waning fashions? Well, there’s nothing more “in” than a guest appearances from Drake, who provides Hova some moral support on the hook. Expect the typical “why (is) this old man hating?” comments from those wishing to keep such fashions afloat. Among those ready for a change, however, Off That might just reach “anthem” status. Watch for Nathan S.‘s take on The Blueprint 3 to hit the Booth Sept 10, one day before the album’s release on the 11th.

Jay takes pride in knowing that whatever he says/does is the rule. I am not sure why he feels the need to do this at this point in his uber-successful career, but if he didn't have the on-the-mic skills and stock he does - it just would be lame.
Not a classic Jay track in my box, but at maximum volume this sounds really really good.

I know Jay is a legend, but I feel like recently he lets his (really tight) flow carry him instead of putting in some lyrical weight. Kanye killed him in "Run this Town", and Drake DEFINTELY overshadowed Jigga with his monsterrr hook on the track.

If you noticed Hov's been working more on his flow than wordplay and lyrical content. I'm not sure if I really like this along with D.O.A. or Run This Town but still can't wait on the album.
Tim's beat is dope and futuristic like all his beats. I wasn't really feeling the hook and Drake was basically pointless. It would of been nice to see him spit along side Jay. |

I can definitely see what many of our members have said about Jay focusing more on his flow than on lyrical content; personally, I'm okay with that. Jay's already proved he can rap his ass off; at this point in career, he can just have some fun. Anyways, the beat on this is crazy; the Drake hook is strong and it has all the ingredients to a banger. Mark my words, inn a few years, people will look back on this like the "Jigga What, Jigga Who" for a new millennium.

So far this albums seems to be adding up to a solid album. I figured that it wouldn't be a classic because in todays day in age that seems impossible. This is a good song I just wish that Drake would have dropped more of a verse.

Man I've been waiting for this collabo for quite some time and with that being said I'm dissapointed. Expected much more from Jay and Drake. Would've been great to at least get a verse from Drizzy. From what I've heard so far BP3 doesn't sound like anything special... but thats just my opinoin.

I agree with HoamBoy that Jay has been focusing more on his flow lately it seems. But he sounded great over this Timbo beat and Drake was decent. 3.5, a little disappointing considering the line-up.

I heard this record earlier this week. I must say that I wasn't feeling the production. Timbo disappointed me. I am sure the track will grow on me, but from the first couple of listens, I wasn't moved much.
I really hoped for a verse from Drake. I can only give this 3 stars at the moment. I still have faith in BP3. I heard another record today called "Reminder" that was produced by Timbo with another sub-par beat, but Hov's lyrics were MUCH MUCH better on that one. |

You can tell Jay-Z is falling off with all the features on Blueprint 3 and not letting Drake getting a verse(might get wrecked on his own track). Despite all this he still makes hot tracks. You would expect something classic with the superstar power but this is still good. Jay-Z's lyrics are average but its probably because the tempo on this song is faster than his usual songs. Timbaland provides a addicting production that will fit in the clubs..so for a club song the lyrics are better than average. Drake's chorus is dope as usual and their chemistry is good. I see this as more of a "Dirt Off Your Shoulders" type of track that wont be too appealing to the true hip-hop heads, but will work for the radio and people in general. Banger for sure!

First off this beat is the future, All Hail Timbo the King. Jay comes off as a bitter old man these days, and I like it! However to second Z, I think that Jay is far to sucessful to be on that level wit his music. He know's he is above mfz in alot of areas, don't make us feel bad about it, you are influencing water over seas, teach us man, don't scold. Hey let that boy drake have a verse on this. I don't give a fidduck abidout those who are hating on hov. Cause he is still kicking ass. I just wish he wasn't so bitter.

The song isn’t as good as it looked on paper IMO majorly because its not what I was expecting (something more lyrical and a Drake verse) ... BUT after a few listens (Oh! the power of big names) it kinda grew on me and has a slick! club bounce to it. Sound best in great quality speakers because of all the nuances in the beat. Lyrically, not Hova's best but where the joint is intended for its lyrically superior than the rest. Overall, all this hype surrounding BP3 is only hurting the CD.

I expected a better beat from Timbaland, like something he did on the Black Album, but this is still good. Lyrically, Hova was good but not at his best. I really wanted a verse from Drake, he would have fit well with this beat. After a few listens, I'm liking it more. I'm really looking forward to BP3! 3.5 out of 5

honestly i think all of you dont kno wat da hell ur talking about. First off, like jay said its soon to be 2010. All off u keeping getting the old jay confused with the new jay. He has been in the rap game for almost 15 years! what worked and was hot back in 99 isnt gonna be like that at this day in age. Jay has evolved not only with his flow *and* lyrical content (remember all singles are commercial so its gonna be more flow than lyrics) but he's also evolved with the times. i think he was amazing. and ppl compare this to run this town and D.O.A. - notice that his flow had a different approach on all three tracks. thats versatility ppl!!! and as far as the timbaland beat, it goes right along with this era of rap/rock/techno thing thats been taking over. he's juss using it to his advantage. and he did bite into the drake hype with him on the hook, but drake did his thing! stop being so critical ppl...4 stars...and wait till the album drops..then say something about lyrical content

Yeah, I was really expecting a verse from Drake on here. Jay did his usual, but at this point in his career he doesn't have to be the best spitter in order to get attention or hype.
I wonder if it's hit Drake yet how big it is that he's made it on BP3 even though he is still relatively "new." LOL @ Aussie_Pride - back then there weren't too many rappers who could do what Em did (Tech N9Ne and Chino XL could have done it) but nowadays there are hella underground rappers that could show up Jay.. they just are not as well-known or commercially successful as Em This song isn't what I was expecting but I am still anticipating the album and Nathan S.'s review of course!!! |

I've been listening to the song more since it first leaked. I can say the song grew on me alot.
I don't get why alot people don't like the beat, it's dope and I like the hook much more now. I guess Drake wasn't totally wasted. Imma actually buy the cd just because I feel the music has been consistanly good. Keep it up Jay. |
