After seeing an advanced screening of the new Denzel Washington film, American Gangster, Jay-Z went straight to the studio. No, he didn’t forget his cell phone; he merely remembered he is HOVA and who better to make a concept album about the American Gangster image than himself? Although fellow rappers Common and RZA will get their shine on in the film itself, the unofficial soundtrack to one of the year’s biggest new films will be helmed by Mr. S Dot Carter. The first street single off the project is entitled Blue Magic and produced by Change Clothes collaborator, Pharrell Williams.

This is the song that almost makes you like Jay-Z? Haven’t you heard “encore” or “takeover” of “u don’t know” or hell the entire Blueprint album? This track’s bangin, but it doesn’t even make it into the top ten Jay-Z tracks list.

Blue Magic is better than most at this current state in the game. I DO HOPE FANS REALIZE THIS IS A CONCEPT ALBUM BASED ON THE MOVIE SO HOV IS RECALLING PERSONAL EXPERIENCES IN THE MOLD OF DENZEL’S CHARACTER. DONT BE SO CRITICAL ABOUT “WHY IS JAY TALKIN BOUT THE DRUG GAME AGAIN. HES A BUSINESSMAN?” ITS A CONCEPT ALBUM. But yes, this track is fire. i will admit that pharrells production is a little predictable, but it still isnt “Soulja Boy” off in this hoe, ya know.
