Jay Sean - Where Do We Go
Artist: Jay Sean
Producer: J-Remy & Bobbybass
Album: The Mistress Mixtape
Label: Jayded/Cash Money/Universal Republic
The last time we heard from Jay Sean he was doing his best Love in the Club impression on the dance floor throbbing Hit the Lights. Well, apparently the Cash Money crooner has been doing some yoga and drinking plenty of herbal tea because on new record Where Do We Go Sean is as relaxed as he was pumped the last time around. A pure ballad that finds producers J-Remy and Bobbybass subtly layering strings and, eventually, a bass line behind an acoustic guitar melody that will have the ‘80s babies out there reminiscing about Babyface (or is it just me?). With minimal instrumentation like that Jay vocally has no where to hide, but luckily he proves to be more than up to the task, laying down the kind of emotional, plaintive vocals that will have ladies worldwide dreaming that he’s singing to them. Fans enraptured by the softer side of Sean have plenty more to look forward to. His pre-album mixtape, The Mistress, which Where Do We Go calls home, is coming soon and his sophomore album is (vaguely) due out later this year.

Super quick feedback...
Not used to hearing this sound from Jay, but he shines quite nicely without the club backing. I think he will struggle to pull his poppy audience across the border into Balladland, but kudos for the attempt and the effort. |

Reminded me of Corinne Bailey Rae at first. One of the best songs I've heard from Jay Sean

The guy really has a solid voice, no need to hide behind big club and radio tracks. Wouldn't mind seeing more tracks like this from him in future. Just not catchy enough to be successful, solid none the less

As a straight single guy I havta say I really don't think I could listen to this and not feel like a teenage girl, and even though he murdered the vocals I don't like him goin all slow. (that's what she said?)

Come on people. This guy can sing. It's a unique song for him, and guess what. It's actually showcases his voice. Unlike alot of the pop/club track's he does. Nice change of pace, and exceptional singing.
