Likely inspired by the success of Kevin Rudolf‘s winter ‘08-‘09 anthem Let It Rock, Birdman has been hard at work building Cash Money into a multi-genre behemoth. One of this scheme’s key players is Jay Sean; hailing from the London suburb of Southall, he’s already released two successful albums in the UK, and has now set his sights on stateside success. Though some in the US may recognize him from his guest appearance on Birdman‘s Written On Her, newly-released single Down represents his first foray into the American spotlight. Over J Remy & BobbyBass‘s pop-friendly beat, Jay lets his lady know that he’ll be there for her through thick and thin; Lil Wayne steps in to provide moral support on the back end, letting listeners know he’s “down like the economy!” Fans on both sides of the pond are sure to find plenty to love about Sean’s U.S. debut, On My Way, which is set to hit stores sometime late this summer.

The production is nothin special, the melody is nothin special, but the track is catchy. The guy has pretty good vocals, the repetition of "down" will have many singin along, and although Wayne is gettin a little boring it wont hurt to have him featured on the back end. Take it for what it is, a solid pop record.

Agreed, very solid pop record. Jay is HUGE overseas, so I think he will have a difficult time seeing that same success stateside. My favorite British singer is Craig David, who is a multi-platinum artist in the U.S., but even he has struggled to keep up his buzz.

The production is solid and I like Jay Sean's vocals throughout the song. The repetition of "Down" definitely makes the hook catchy and Lil' Wayne always helps out well on features. The vibe of this song is perfectly designed for the mainstream...definitely be a radio hit! Im diggin this!

Yeah, I liked this a lot. I know I always say my favorite stuff is the underground music (which is definitely true) but sometimes I love these radio tracks. It was very catchy and Jay's vocals sounded great to me. Wayne was solid and Drumma Boy brings a tight production, which is expected.

Best track on the booth today. Production is tight from Drumma Boy & Sean has got some good vocals. The addition of Wayne on the track should mean that this track will get some spins on the radio

Dunno bout this one, mixed feelings throughout this track. Not bad; but because of my ignorance of some songs (like these)- I will get bored of it. As i'm writing this I'm thinking whether this should in rotation or not ... anywayz another splendid track which was brought DOWN pretty well. I'll stick my first choice rating.

radio stations everwhere are gonna be playin this like crazy. he has that boy band sound with lil wayne who puts a fire verse as usual. even though i heard it twice and the 2nd time it sounded boring, its gonna top charts. its like everyone from overseas blows up over here. and big ups to cash money for the diversity in the record label.

I like it, sounds a little like that Colby guy but a little less boy bandish. Lil wayne is tolerable on this one. I find I can only tolerate his verses if there on a pop beat now. Jay seems talented, I could see this on the radio but I'd prefer a different rapper on here than lil wayne. Put Flo Rida on and then we got a radio hit haha
