Incredibly it’s been more than a year since America got Down with Jay Sean’s smash single, but since then the young crooner’s still on the hunt for another hit. While his follow-up Do You Remember fared well in the Booth, it didn’t take off on the charts, an ailment Sean’s looking to remedy on his new track, the pre-apocalyptic 2012. An unabashedly un-tempo track, 2012 recruits regular production tandem J-Remy & Bobbybass to craft a rock-tinged but ultimately purely pop beat that Sean’s fills with the kind of catchy and light vocals a track like this demands. As for the guest feature, Nicki Minaj is far more subdued than she was on Bottoms Up, but I’m sure her haters will still find something to hate. While I wouldn’t suggest anyone actually party like the world’s going to end – if it doesn’t you’ll likely end up broke and with more than a couple diapers to change – I can’t advise against partying with 2012. Jay Sean’s upcoming, untitled album will hopefully drop sometime before the end of the world, which if you’re a believer in the Mayan calendar, means the next 17 months.

Prince recorded "1999" in 1982 and 28 years later it still sounds as fresh as it did back in the day. Will we be able to say the same thing about Jay Sean's new "2012" (recorded in 2010) in two years? Who knows. But, for now, it should work great in the clubs and at radio.
FYI: Nicki sounds excellent here (but does she really want Wayne free? If he is out her spotlight shrinks.) |

This sounds like it would fit perfectly on the radio. I can see this topping the charts. Nicki adds a nice verse to the end, and even though this is a very simple kind of track the catchiness and radio sound will help it overcome that.

What do you mean that "Do You Remember" didn't do well on the charts?!?! It got up to number 12 and it went platinum in the U.S. I would say that it pretty good if you ask me.
Anyways, This just seems rushed and has nothing on "Down" or "Do You Remember". |

Sorry, but this is as generic and bland as it gets. Not to mention, I HATE when people acknowledge the end of the world in 2012, seriously, do you guys read the bible?

This will for sure be a hit.
Why Nicki Minaj thoughhhhhhh????? I will admit she had a great flow, but I'm sick of every YM artist saying "free weezy". That sh1t is getting old. |

2012 sounds like another hit single for Jay Sean.
DJ Booth has its info wrong though. "Do you Remember" went #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has sold 1.6 Million singles according to sound scan. Thats a hit record in my book and 2012 sounds like it will follow its lead. I predict right in the middle of his two previous hits...this one will be a top 5 record. |

Nicki went in on this joint. I can see this having a big impact on the charts, but the lyrics are a bit bland and the topic is a little generic. I can see it having success, may take some time to grow on me.

Nicki was pretty solid. Nice radio jam to dance to.
But no, it isn't the end of the world in 2012. I will watch the "2012" movie in 2013 and laugh at it after I walk down the street with a sign saying "FAIL" on December 22, 2012. |

This beat sounds like it wants to butt rape the radio it is that corny, I struggled gettin' through it all, surprisingly Nicki (who I've only ever liked in 2 tracks) did the best here, I mean I didn't overly enjoy her but she was clearly the best. Should do OK on the radio but I honestly don't see it going past the top 5

2012 (it aint the end) It aint about the end of the world. He says "it aint the end of the world". Or "like the end of the world". Its an up-tempo track having fun and not taking life for granted. Embrace every moment. It's just his figure of speech |

For the record, everyone's right, I should revise and say Do You Remember was a hit, but compared to Down (which was the biggest selling track from a U.K. artist since Elton John and sold six million copies) it's success was moderate. It's the blessing and the curse of having your first song go super, super big. No matter how well you do after, you probably won't ever top your debut.
Anyway, while this is a perfectly fine pop record, I don't think it had the potential to score as big either of the songs mentioned above. And I'm surprised to not see the usual onslaught of hate (Aussie Accents aside) for Nicki here. |

For every person outside the UK, have you tried listening to his old records like Got My Eyes On You, or Stay or Ride It? Because if he was in the US and released them then he would be up there with the Usher of this world with his sales.
For this Nicki Minaj suits it, flow is just as sick as it is on Sweet Dreams Remix. Jay Sean not his best work but yet still solid. |

My man Jay Sean!
I can see this being another big hit for Jay, even though it is very very corny sounding...should work well in the club... One thing I must point out is Jay Sean sounded so much better when he was sticking to his roots. A friend played me some old school Jay Sean where he was just going in on these sick hindi beats...I thought it was genius! hopefully on this upcoming album we get a couple of joints like that! |

Sounds like it has the same chord progression as Keisha's "your love is my drug." The song could have avoided the pop association by using a synth instead of a guitar during the verses. Other than that, it is very catchy but not what I expected from Jay Sean.
