If you’re like most hip-hop fans, there’s at least one rapper you’re so sick of that you wish (mainly in jest) somebody would just knock his lights out. Inglewood, California rapper Jay Rock feels the same way—after growing up in some of the toughest streets in America, seeing certain “studio gangstas” misrepresent themselves leaves him itching to Beat A Rapper Down. Though Busta Rhymes sticks with his new-school flow on his guest verse, Diverse‘s beat and hook sound like something he would’ve spit to a decade ago. Either way, Beat A Rapper Down is a slightly deceptive track; while the beat’s rather subdued, the song’s aim is clearly to get listeners hyped. With that said, if you’re having serious thoughts about jumping an MC, SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP!

I like the feel of the production, but wit jay rock's raspy vocals and busta's grimy voice it is kinda overpowered by the two. I did like the lyrics by both and the hook is nice too...

The production is really questionable and the lyrics are solid. The whole feel is kind of boring but its decent

Jay Rock's "All My Life" is still hot in the streets but I don't think this track is going to have nearly as big as an impact. Jay Rock is coming into the game at an interesting time with the whole indie, "hipster" movement blowing up in SoCal. He's in need of that one hit single to put him over the hump and this isn't it.

The production sounds dull and just does not fit well with the verses especially Busta's ... its kinda boring... regardless the topic ...

I prefer All My Life to this, though this is still a pretty solid track. I thought Jay Rock was good on this, though Busta was a little disappointing.
The production did get a little over powered by the vocals of Rock & Rhymes |

ok, let's say that the beat could be improved (for instance, remove that stupid chorus....), BUT jay spits some fire. i mean, the third verse is a REAL twister...

pretty smooth, started off bad, but bustah saved this track with his lyrics. 3 out of 5, needs a new beat, but keep the lyrics

Burmy called this record "a slightly deceptive track." I couldn't agree with him more. If you were to tell me, without hearing anything, that Busta would be featured on a song called "Beat A Rapper Down," I would never have pictured this.
Unlike some of you - I enjoy the Diverse beat work. Maybe not ideal for this song but its solid. |

Now I wanna ride around on the subway listening to Brand Nubian's Punks Jump Up and this song over and over. Very 90's sounding, but in a good way. I like Jay Rock but I like his track "I Be on the Block" more than this one. It's in rotation because you gotta like a song that has a line in it that says, "I'm nuts like cashews"

Jay Rock kills the last verse and proves why he is one of the best from the west and one of the realist out from the west. He got on his NY ish and killed it.

I expected more of this collabo, especially since i really dig jay rocks flow normally. In the last verse he luckely shows his skills on the mic but the instrumentals in this song are so boring that i aint gonna listen to it again. I rather listen to all my life or follow me home(ft.the Game)
