Imagine growing up in an environment where everyone around you expects you to fail. Imagine making it to your 21st birthday, only to realize all your best friends are either behind bars or six feet deep. If you grew up in Watts, California, like rapper Jay Rock, the gang and drug infested streets are not imaginary, they are real. Knowing he has come from so far to get to where he is today, Jay Rock’s not about to keep it to himself, “Where I come from man, I’m gonna keep it real: I’m the first young cat outta my projects, to get signed to a major label.” On his new official single, All My Life, Rock hooks up with some cross country friends, Lil’ Wayne and producers Cool & Dre to jointly bring light to a harsh reality.
Wussup with everyone from California having that deep GAME type voice lately...I dunno! The chorus is cool; but Jay Rock isn't saying anything real hot. Lil Wayne represents on this one solidly as usual with about 3 different flows on this track. He saves it in my opinion.
It's a good combination of the "hard Game" stylized rap (which I don't really mind), catchy uplifting hook, and really good flow by wayne. I like the whole gospel 'hoo-ing' and strings in the background. It works for me.
I fell in love with this track the second the violin melody started stringing over the wicked bassline/hand clap. Cool & Dre specialized in combining street lyrics and contemporary beats together into a perfect musical marriage, just look at The Game's "Hate It Or Love It." California hip-hop needs to go back to these funky vibes like the "Doggystyle" and "The Chronic" days. How can you not jam to this while riding down Long Beach?
I love when I hear a rapper that hits hard but can hold it on a soft beat. Chorus is relaxing and smooth. Weezy only adds to the track. This is Quality. 4.5/5 - I'll give him a 5 on the rating though, leaning more that way anyways!
Who's that on the hook?? Jay Rock holds his own on this track and doesn't let Wayne outshine him, although Weezy laid it down like always. This is a smooth track beginning to end.
Jay Rocks got somethin here. This is definitely radio worthy, and just reitterating that Lil Wayne is tearin this beat up. I'm really feelin this song.
Have heard a lot of jay rock tracks and he normaly dont sound like game nor have the same style as him but on this track he do. Wayne made up for it and the beat was good too.
yeah I'm feeling it a little bit...I'll probably have to listen to it a couple times before it really sticks...but wit Weezy on the track its gotta be right!!!
dre made this hook hot... most people don't know he sings. nice smooth track jay rock's voice doesnt seem like it should be on this track though but anyways decent track. he sounds like RICK ROSS with a cold
