In his recent, Booth-exclusive interview with DJ Z, Jason Derulo assured his fans that his smash hit debut single, Whatcha Say, was only the beginning of what he had to offer, stating, “I reinvent myself with each track.” Follow-up selection In My Head may sound like the work of the same artist, but it’s definitely a change of pace. Here, Derulo works the R&B/pop/rock fusion angle, letting listeners know just what he’d like to do with a certain female clubgoer as J.R. Rotem delivers a beat driven by rhythmic electric-guitar riffs and scorching synths. With the subject matter of a steamy club cut (“Instead of talking, let me demonstrate/ Get down to business and skip foreplay.”) and a catchy, sugary pop sound, IMH has a little bit of a split personality – can Jason Derulo have it both ways? @Sigurd, agreed, that songis probably played at least 15 times where i live (wisconsin), yet i'm still not sick of it Random point: Watcha Say and Down are way overplayed, i'm not saying the songs are bad, they are actually really good, but that doesnt mean the radio has to play it every 8th song |

This is the reason why Jason DeRulo has quickly become on of my favorite R&B/pop singers. He's not afraid to experiment and work with different styles of music (hence the rock route this time). Oh and his voice is sick. His hooks are always on point. Great production by Polow as well. Definite banger.

This is decent, but I'm not crazy over it. The wanna-be rock sample is distracting and very corny. The singing and melody is good enough, but it is definitely not my cup of tea. I can't give this rotation.

Know it's not the popular opinion, but I'm gonna have to say that I agree with Juanito_88 here - I'm not convinced this is a huge hit. With the rock edge it could have some crossover appeal, but it doesn't stay stuck in my head like Whatcha Say did. For my money this won't be another hit like Whatcha Say, we'll see how good my ear is in a couple weeks when it either gets played on radio incessantly or never ,

Just to throw this out there. I don't think this is going to be near as big as "Whatcha Say." But I think it will catch on and this song shows that he's trying new directions,which I like.

LoveD "Watcha Say"... But after hearing it around 5 times a day for like 2 months now Ill be alright if I dont hear it 4 a while lol.
Refreshing to hear something new from him and if history repeats itself imma need another fresh track around early January ;) |

It's a bit surprising to me that even reaching #1 spot on Billboards Hot 100, "Whatcha Say" stays a local hit!

unpopular opinion here... but average at best to me... as for the general public, they'll eat it up. It just sounds like the same thing over again at a different speed... feel the same way about jay sean's new releases... great for the public, not for my car

I think this is gonna hit the radio hard. I am glad to see Jason DeRulo come out with another single worthy song after "Whatcha Say"....thought maybe one hit wonder....its nice to be proven wrong in that sense. Although, this song is not really my style, there's nothing stoppin it from blowing up

Derulo is goin to be around for a long time. he could be one of the few current r&b artists that could put out a classic album. not right now of course, he has a lot of growin to do first.

Derulo knows how to make hits, which this proves once again. I loved Whatcha Say, but understanding mass appeal, not every hit record is going to necessarily appeal to me...haha
This record isnt exactly my cup of tea. The production of this is generic, the fl studio sounding guitars....they kind of miss their mark. But it is catchy and the chorus is pretty good...but i just dont find it that exciting. 3 stars |
