Jason Caesar - Taking You Home
Artist: Jason Caesar
Producer: Fatboi
Album: The Musical
Label: PoE.T.s Music
Those who, like me, narrowly missed experiencing the music of the ‘80s firsthand (I’m an ‘88 baby) are currently being treated to a thorough retread of the era’s hits. Whatever your feelings on urban music’s current passion for updating Reagan-decade classics, few artists could be more up to the task of polishing a dusty pop gem than Jason Caesar, who looks to the Cutting Crew’s (I Just) Died in Your Arms for inspiration on the second world premiere off his forthcoming mixtape. Taking You Home finds Fatboi interpolating the ‘86 single’s instantly-recognizable string riffs as Caesar invites a special lady to grab her passport and book it to the airport for the journey of her life (with a layover, of course, in the singer’s bedroom). Harlem vet Ma$e takes center stage on the record’s middle portion, cutting right to the chase in his sexed-up guest verse. Like what you’re hearing? You’ll be able to (figuratively) take home a copy of Jason Caesar’s Booth-sponsored The Musical street album on September 15, when it hits our mixtape page for free streaming and download. In the meantime, why not check out the recently-released trailer?

Several artists over the past decade have taken on the task of copying/sampling/duplicating the catchy success of "(I Just) Died in Your Arms." They all failed (yes, including Smitty), though, because they kept the same chorus. Jason isn't stupid.
This retread doesn't seem stale or tacky at all and the inclusion of my favorite former not-named-Biggie Bad Boy rapper (Ma$e) puts it over the top. Caesar has all the makings of a longtime hit-maker. |

I have not heard "The Musical". I'm hoping its more "Misery Loves Company". Less "Taking You Home". If you grew up in the 80's you would understand.

When I read that Jason was going to be hoping on the 80s sample bandwagon I was nervous - it almost always comes across as gimmicky, but incredibly he completely pulls it off. I can't remember the last time an artist went from unknown to favorite so quickly for me as Jason. This dude's got some serious talent.

Oh, and I almost forgot. Ma$e, really? Why? I don't know if Z's being sarcastic or not when he says Ma$e is one of his favorites, but I have a hard time thinking of a rapper whose flow I like less. Replace him with even a decent rapper and this goes to the next level.

man, who is this Jason Caesar guy? hes comin outta nowhere right now. this deserves to be a major hit. however, the radio today isnt concerned w/quality so it will prob be lucky to chart.
oh ya, and Mase? wat a pleasant surprise. he wasnt extroardinary or anything here, but he was solid and ill most certainly take it. between this and his last feature, Jason Caesar deserves at least one 5-star rating. |

How many people are going to sample this classic song????? If people are ging to sample something as epic as this sample then they have to make it truly their own, not just pony ride based on the name recognition. Lazy @$$e$. And Mase? Are people serious???

It's a nice song, but I'll give you props just for getting Ma$e to spit something hot. But Jason Caesar's vocals are always hot. I hope though he doesn't get like Robin Thicke.
