Jarren Benton - A Spacesuit & Parachute
Artist: Jarren Benton
Featuring: Aleon Craft
Producer: SMKA
Album: Jarren Benton Meets SMKA: Huffing Glue With Hasselhoff
Label: Funk Volume
Minus the The Lonely Island club, the hip-hop game has been about as serious as a Joker monologue lately. If you’ve been looking for some funny lyricism matched with heavy hitting production, you’re in luck today. Jarren Benton is back at it with the DJBooth-exclusive A Spacesuit & Parachute, a leak that delivers line after line of creativity and humor from both Benton and the well-established ATlien Aleon Craft. SMKA always manages to throw down a great beat, this time taking it to an otherworldly feel with sparkling synths and deeply rumbling bass while the Freestyle Series alum beats down naysayers with witty one-liners: “These ni**ers aren’t ready homes, they are on romantic getaways with Eddie Long.” Throw in a flowing verse from Aleon and this one’s absolutely orbiting. Need more proof that this project is nothing but fun? The title of the album (out January 25 via iTunes) is Jarren Benton meets SMKA: Huffing Glue with Hasselhoff. Getting an audio high has never sounded so good. Keep it locked to the Booth for more from these talented tricksters.

While most of hip hop nation walks in place, artists from the ATL are sprinting ahead. Jarren and Aleon Craft smack you in the face and SMKA sticks to what they do best. There is MUCH more where this came from, people.

I love how ATL continues to breed these off-kilter, spacey alternate hip-hop artists. I've loved every strange but sick verse Jared has put out so far, and he drops some funny lines on this track. Aleon spits a nice verse as well on this. Thank you ATLiens!

This was tight. Did he sound similar to B.o.B, to anyone else? I didn't get much of the jokes (cause I'm cool like that) but I feel that his presentation and "serious" lyrics made up for it.

Listening to this sounds like Slim Shady featuring B.o.B. Tracks like these remind me of how diverse our Hip Hop emcees are.

Supermarket knife attack suckers.
This won't be for everyone, nothing SMKA does is, but for those willing to fly high there's not much better. When Craft and Benton speed up on the second and third verse to really flow over the beat, that's replay worthy. Respect creativity. |
