Jared Evan - Weight of the World
Featuring: Stat Quo
Producer: ill Factor
Album: Back & Fourth Mixtape
Label: Zone 4/Interscope
Jared Evan‘s musical output may give the impression that the reader-acclaimed singer/songwriter/emcee’s in a constant state of emotional turmoil, but beneath the ambivalence and occasional melodrama lies an artist powerful enough to take on any challenge. As proof, I present the freestyle series alumnus’ latest mixtape leak (a Booth-exclusive world premiere!), which sees him doing Atlas one better: not only is he willing to bear the Weight of the World on his shoulders, but he’s determined to carry it to a higher place – not to mention, he’s going to sing while doing it. Two gifted sidekicks lend a hand on the verses; ATL representatives Stat Quo and Roscoe Dash jump on board to lace ill Factor‘s synth-drenched boardwork with, respectively, epic imagery (“High stakes, it’s a war in the lion’s den…”) and hyperkinetically-flowed motivational rhymes (“The purpose of the world is to rope us in, the only defense to that is to overstand.). Like what you’re hearing? This soaring joint and much more can be found on Evan’s Booth-sponsored Back and Fourth street album, set to hit our mixtape page in late February.

Huge fan of Jared and his work. I am not sure if "Weight of the World" is what we should all come to expect from Jared, and if it is that is fine, but I have loftier expectations for the man. Because the Stat and Roscoe features are back-to-back to kick off the song, Jared in a way sounds like the guest (at times) on his own record. In the end, though, he remains the most memorable contributor over moving prod.

Z said exactly what I was thinking, why did Jared get clean up duty on his own track? Other than that, the beat was pretty catchy and fits the style of hip hop that's popular right now. Could have done without Roscoe, but I get why he's here.

3-stars. would be 4 but someone obviously gets there friends to rate on this site for only the sole purpose to get his song rated the highest. |

Stat Quo was dope, and Roscoe was pretty decent actually (but his ad-libs are bit annoying), pretty decent flow.
The production is awesome, and Jared's vocals are on point too. |

Leaves me wantin more. Stat went real deep, maybe even growing a little as the beats go. Roscoe stayed the same, as lyrical comedian. This new dude Evan though....he's goin places.

I have to agree that Jared does sound like a guest on his own track, but that's why this won't be on an album. Instead, it's evidence that Jared can sound nice on a track even with some more "unexpected' partners. It's that kind of versatility that's really going to take him far.

I will not say a bad thing here, not even criticize. Its an ok track. I know they didnt make it to be a classic but i figure they hoped it would be meaningful. Jared kept my interest in the song, the hook was nice.

its a four for me, not cuz its awesome, but it is better then average. definitely catchy, could have dont without roscoe just cuz his voice didnt really fit awesomely inthe song. stat killed it and jared pulled off a nice chorus, shoulda had a better verse but oh well. overall nice song
