Jared Evan‘s latest feature was left off the tracklist of his recently-released Radio in My Head mixtape, but it’s hard to see why; unreleased cut Reign boasts the same blend of mainstream appeal and left-of-center experimentation that made the up-and-comer’s Booth debut, What I Want, a smash hit among our readers. Backed by DV Milla‘s midtempo arpeggiated-synth instrumental (accented with appropriately stormy sound effects), Evans reflects on his musical aspirations, delivering thoughtful verses laced with out-the-box imagery (I think Jared Evan may be the first person in the history of the world to utter the sentence “The world is a potato.”) and topping the track off with a bittersweet sung hook. In short, it’s perfect cut to rock in your headphones as you gaze out the window on a rainy day (and believe me, Minne-ap’s had plenty of those in recent weeks). Though Reign isn’t set to appear on any forthcoming project, fans can hear Evan’s track Frozen on the soundtrack to LeBron documentary More Than a Game, out now.

This guy had a dope flow on here. The production was nice and the hook went well with it. Solid cut.

To me this isn't quite as good as the other work on Radio In My Head (Evan's flow is a little off), which is no insult considering how dope that project was, but it's still the work of one of music's most unique voices.

His past tracks inspired me to check out his mixtape "Radio In My Head", which was a kind of disappointing experience. I could see that the kid had talent, in particular a really versatile flow and a pretty good singing voice.
But while he had plenty of moments on his mixtape, they never sustained any momentum. There were a couple good songs on it, but they sounded like the good songs of a young rapper with some potential, not a rapper ready to make a great album. Other than "Frozen" I can't really name any other track off mixtape. |

Left of center and liking it, but (like Nathan said) not as good as the material that made the cut on his mixtape. I am looking forward to his debut album; even Jared unreleased stuff is better than most.
