Jared Evan - Not Tonight
Artist: Jared Evan
Producer: Statik Selektah
Album: Radio in My Head REDUX
Label: Unsigned
As a sensitive young man with a penchant for anguished soul-searching, you’d expect Jared Evan to be a magnet for girl troubles – and, judging by the recent Booth interview subject/ freestyle series alum‘s latest feature (an exclusive world premiere) you’d be right. Not Tonight finds the Northeastern singer/songwriter/rapper once again squeezing proverbial lemons into lemonade for our listening pleasure, pouring out his conflicted feelings regarding a certain female over the pensive, synth-drenched boardwork of heavyweight producer Statik Selektah. The result is both emotionally cathartic and hummably catchy – a tough combination to pull off. If you’re digging Jared Evan’s heart-on-sleeve style, you you can find more on the artist’s Radio in My Head REDUX, which has yet to receive a solid release date. In addition, keep it locked for the latest on Evan’s forthcoming Interscope debut, due out later this year.

I hate when Richard steals my comment thunder. How else can I put it? "The result is both emotionally cathartic and hummably catchy – a tough combination to pull off." Well said.
And yes, we are huge supporters of Jared and Statik. Blame them for making/producing good music. |

Some ear catching production right from the beginning. Definitely makes you want to bob your head to it. Statik definitely did a good job on the boardwork for this one.
Jared Evan does a real good job handing this song. His voice works really well with the melody. Definitely a song I could jam to when I am with a girl or even at the club. The chorus is well executed and reminds me of Robin Thicke, but J.E.'s voice is definitely more pleasing to the ears than Robin's. Have to say this is a really well done slow jam, something I really could play over and over again. |

Right off the bat, Statik's production sounds fabulous, but Jared Evans has never really been one to make me jump out of my seat. The man has some good vocals, no complaints there, however, I'm not really that big on his voice as a whole. Couldn't really listen to him for that long without getting annoyed. This track is solid though. 3.5

Statik murdered the production on this one (no surprise there). Jared's vocals on this were spot on and, as the nice guy myself, I definitely feeling the subject matter. The only thing holding this back from my "Classic" rating is that missing "POW" factor; I can't describe what exactly I mean by that but I'm sure you can figure it out.
I look forward to hearing more from Jared in the future. Banger. |

Love this track. Jared has great vocals and over Statik's dope beat, it just makes a crazy song. Statik needs to produce every song on Jared's album, these guys are gonna have a bright future.

Statik drops yet another banger and Jared succeeds in doing it justice. Evan is very versatile, at times sounds like B.o.B. and at others giving off a Mike Posner vibe. Good lyrics, good vocals, good beat, and they all come together seamlessly...This is definitely a banger!

The beat from the song is catchy which is a plus because it will get some good attention. The vocals on this song are pretty easy to listen to. Jared has this mellow flow going on throughout this song. What he does best is by having a solid chorus. I believe that the verses could be more distinct in order to off his true vocals. It's really enjoyable to listen to well written song.

Another creative beat by Statik! I don't know if I like Jared's slow singing with this more uptempo beat. But somehow I can't hate because this man can sing and this production is crazy nice. This is just a good track and what makes this song stand out is Statik's production...without it I don't think it would be nearly as good.

It's already been mentioned many times, but I do agree that the production on this track is pretty good. It's a catchy beat with enough "beeps" to keep the rhythm but not too many to be annoying.
I also think that Jared has a great deal of emotion and passion in his voice. However, I don't think his singing is up to par with other, well-known r&b singers -- it almost sounds like a rapper who's trying his hand at singing. Maybe with a little bit more voicework and training, he can make a big impact in the game. I'd say give it a go, just don't expect to be blown away by the vocal performance. |

@Blaze31, I just noticed you review and I do agree with you about the vocals. We're just a bunch of rebels aren't we.
@x20nickel, I agree again! The chorus was a better showcase of his skill, but the verses were a bit lacking. He just needs a bit more work. |

Statik Selektah is a MONSTER on boards. This showcases the electronic and more melodic side of his music palette, proving that he can handle varied types of subject matter with winning results.
Jared Evan was good but I also felt like he tryin too hard to convince us with his vocals chops. Rotation fa sho! |

This not usually the kind of music i am into, but then again i don't even know how to classify this guy's music. It's always refreshing to hear a guy who is completely unique and whose music reflects that uniqueness. I hope Evan continues to produce this same unique music for his debut. This one is def a banger and props to Statik for the sick beat.

wow wow wow wow wow that beast of a beat is impressive instantly great great job on production.
i dont know if sold on the vocals yet they dont sound refined too me and they dont flow with the beat in my head it kinda sounds like a hot mess. chorus is on point which is funny because its the same person. i just get the vibe that hes going for a justin timberlake type sound at some parts but they dont work. you leave this song confused atleast in my opinon because on the one hand you have what sounds like avg singing and on the other you have great production and thats plus the flow of the lyrics carried this song ill put it on rotation but not much love from the MP3 |

As a huge fan, it's interesting to listen to a different sound from Statik. But that Jim Jonsin type of sound in the background does nothing to bring catchiness to the song, so it just annoys me.
The whole melody doesn't appeal to me, I can only appreciate this as art: it's not suppose to entertain me, but to express something, and at that at least they achieved. |
