It can look like the artists we keep steadily moving through our headphones have it made – money, women, posts on The DJBooth – but we rarely see the struggle and doubt that happens behind the scenes, unless an artist like Jared Evan is brave enough to open up his life. On his new single, It’s Over, the always versatile Evan puts his hard-rhyming ways on full display, speaking on the adversity he overcame as a kid growing up outside the bounds of the standard path to success. Pair that with frankly more superb production from !llmind, who not only blends the titular sample with pounding percussion but crafts an atmospheric, horn-laden instrumental on the back end, and you’ve got one of the “realer” tracks you’re ever going to hear. Fans of Evan’s brand of creative honesty have a lot to look forward to. Following the release of this Rik Cordero-directed video, Evan’s The 4th Chapter EP will be available for free download Tuesday, June 26. There are very few artists who are brave enough to be an open book for their fans. Combine that willingness with always outstanding production work from !llmind and you're left with a memorable listen.

Jared Evan just started off flowing strong and kept it all up. The beat is somewhat of a mixed bag for me. Sometimes it sounds great and sometimes it sounds monotonous. Jared carried it through tho.

If it was longer with some more bars this would be a classic, still near though, the production on this is just everything I love about music, Jared Evan can spit bars, for sure.

F**k ancient...this is history in the making....Jared and Illmind are able to rewrite the book every time out. From Radio in My Head, to Uncovered, to the couple of songs they have released so far from the Fourth Chapter, they own it every time out. Original songs, covers, it doesn't matter. Not sure what it takes to get him on the radio, but someone should figure it out so the whole world can hear what Jared has to say.
