Soul meets big band in Janelle Monáe‘s new song, Sincerely Jane. However, don’t let the eclectic music distract from the message Janelle is trying to deliver on this, her first “suite” release, The Chase. Singing about drugs, violence and the lack of true life and love, there isn’t anything the Kansas City, Kansas native doesn’t feel comfortable covering. The “suite” is Janelle’s way of delivering music in which, instead of releasing several songs on one album per year, she will release only a few songs in a “suite” four times a year. Whether this system will work out for the singer has yet to be determined, but, regardless, Sincerely Jane should grab the attention of every listener, whether for the music or for the truth she speaks.
Wow, This is fresh! I gotta give Booth alot of credit for puting this on the lineup. This is just REAL GOOD MUSIC! I mean for real i will listen to this right here and bang it.
she looks like Tootie off that 1 show sumbody tell me what name if they feel me ......
she can sing but not nothin to move on radio she was good on tha OutKast idlewild album tho....
This is mad fresh and dope! I'm mad surprised that DJBOOTH.NET found this and featured it. Yo, and peep this.
I disagree with this statement Million Dollar:
not nothin to move on radio
MAYBE IF PEOPLE WOULD START DROPPING THESE TYPE OF JOINTS AS SINGLES, RADIO SOUND WOULD CHANGE! As long as people keep that same mindset that certain stuff won't do good on the radio, they keep dropping the same sounding singles. That tends to make radio become monotonous.
yea i feel u homie we do need this tha industry wont let it happen tho... or should i say tha pple who are on soulja boyz joc aint... ((thats tha industry)).......
Wow she is very talented, you really need good chops to pull off the vocals for a song like this. It is amazingly refreshing and I though it was out of place at first with the extremely jazz/broadway feel for the first part of the song. Then the beat changes up part way through the song to carry more of a hiphop flare and then the scratching begins. What a unique approach to a song like this, I'm impressed.
Big Band meets sould is right. This takes me back in the day chillin' with grandpa listening to old vinyls. Solid production, singing, beat, and chorus. Janelle Monae has a beautiful voice. She can sing her a** off.
wow this is real music, they is great it has that old skool feel mix with some new skool...........yeah this is awesome but it probably wont get to many spins because people like the same bland reycle stuff, they dont like a change this dramatic.......the booth really delivered tonight i give the booth 5 stars, the booth gotta me excited about music again
Just had the chance to listen to her EP, there's a reason why Bad Boy has such high hopes for Janelle. Her tracks are like modern hip-hop operas - who knew Diddy was down with supporting truly creative music?
I LOVE the way it starts, how it develops, and by the end I was with the shivers already. I can't believe there's an artist like Janelle (great voice/singing) on the Hip Hop side these days! The scrathes (by the end) are like a window through wich biased people could get how much quality this song has. Yes, opera can be good! I hope this gets to the inner good musical taste we all born with.. ;) Does she have full creative control of her songs, or is she goin to become a bad girl to match her label?
This is very different...it surprised me! Anyway, it's not the kind of song I would usually listen to. But I appreciate it's originality!! I guess & hope it will be in rotation
luv dis!!! heard of her a long time ago...n like her style...VEEEERRRYY DIFFERENT!! first seen her n outkast's video n thought who da hell is dat...been waitin for dem to give her a chance for a min mow cuz she been signed to purple ribbon for a while...but im confused as to how she could b on purple ribbon n bad boy?!?!?!?!
*Hey Everyone* Janelle's new project is really something to get excited about; everyone at DJBooth loves what she is going to offer up to the listening public. Look out next week for another feature with Janelle.
im really glad this song is getting a really good reception from everyone, i cant wait to her some other songs from her..... im breathin better already lol
Soul sistah! She vaguely reminds me of Chrisette Michele. The brass section on this is mad sick and the vocals are strong yet soothing. Hopefully another neo-soul/r&b artist on the come up...
an't this some classy shtuff .... neat and a very sophistacted sound with that hip hop beat that makes is so r&b when you realy think about it ..... tight ... banga but ay 5* ..... nice production ..... new sound .... co co tune!
This shit is official.
All I am thinking about is her on the Idlewild album. Janelle is a beast. I will be copping the ablum just off the strength of this track!!
I like this track alot. She got signed to BadBoy because "the industry" supports artist that are serious about their craft. There is room for all of the dedicated artist out there!
I LOVE it! So soulful, she reminds me of Alice Smith (another unknown, underrated artist). I hope beings though she is on Bad Boy she gets the recognition she deserves. She is a breath of fresh air to the music industry seriously.
This is innovative! I like the experiment! It worked! I'd like to see an entire album with this sound! I think it'll work. I can always count on The Outkast camp to hit me with something fresh. Puff behind this too? Yea He's been creatin some fire lately. Good Music! Janelle has a Very Nice Voice!
I really really really like the Sultry-ness of her voice. Its fresh, and she stands out to me, imma have to give this a 5, cuz this iz def. my type of talent!
