Jamieson - Keep Up
Artist: Jamieson
Featuring: Emilio Rojas
Producer: DJ Static
Album: I Came, I Saw (Vol. 1)
Label: Unsigned
Valedictorian, Olympic gold medalist, number-one rapper: which one of these things is not like the other? Since you’re at DJBooth, if you guessed rapper, you’d be correct. Why? Because even when a rapper reaches number-one, their top spot can still be swiped by someone bigger and better – the race is never over. That’s why, as London-born, New York-based rapper Jamieson says, it’s extremely important to Keep Up. For his first Booth feature, Jamieson (who, might I say, sounds like Slim Shady circa 2000) enlists the help of The Natural Emilio Rojas to convince us that keeping moving in the race to the top is the key to success. Both emcees ride the pulsating, street-jazziness of DJ Static’s production with ease, but more importantly, both Jamieson and Rojas fit into the track’s big picture like puzzle pieces – that number one spot can’t be far away for either of them. Keep Up can be found on Jamieson’s I Came, I Saw (Vol. 1) EP, due out later this month. Keep it locked for more details.

While I don't hear the Eminem in Jamieson like our writer Matthew does, I can only hope Slim Shady is as wise to pick up dope production to rap over like our new Booth friend does here.
In addition to choosing a solid beat, the other wise move Jamieson made was enlisting Booth favorite Emilio Rojas, whose effortless storytelling bars always impress. Good stuff. |

The beat was ok, but not really my style. Both dudes had nice flows that went well with the beat, but it didn't do it for me.

Ughh, Jamieson's first verse was not too good, full of cliches. His second was a little better.
I was listening to The Natural last week. Sick tape with DJ Green Lanern. Good showing by Rojas on this track. |

Just a really solid track all around. The beat's solid, Emilio Rojas is solid (as always), and while this is my first time hearing Jamieson, I was impressed, although not blown away. I'm interested to hear what else the man has up his lyrical sleeve.

I can't stomach it... THe beat is too hyphy for him, his lyrics are too slow, and he seems like a repeat of Eminem in multiple ways; the look, the voice, the flow of his rhymes, everything. Not exact, but too similar. I don't see him being unique in any way. He also comes off fake, because he is white, from London/NewYork, yet he rolls his "R's" like a Latino... Just trying too hard for my taste!

First and foremost, Rojas is one of those rappers that makes it seem effortless at times. I'm a fan for the most part. Lyrically, Jamieson doesn't leave me amazed, but his vocals are definitely distinguished. That's what sets this record apart for me. The energy could be greater.

The Emilio Rojas beat was nice. Jamiesons verse was just ok, "the new Slick Rick of the game" may be a bold ambition. Didn't really like the second verse especially from about 2:30 on to the end. The cadence seemed off at times when he tried to rap more quickly. Just ok for me. 2 stars.

I dont hear the Eminem in this guy. Jamieson really didnt impress me, and Rojas could only do so much to carry this track, plus his verse seemed kind of short and cut off.
