At a glance, you might not guess that Booth newcomer Jake Miller had a particularly hard-knock upbringing, but looks can be deceiving. In reality, the 18-year-old rap hopeful had to surmount formidable obstacles to make it to where he stands today, not least of them a woefully incomplete education. On new promo single Top Spot, he confesses, “My teachers never took the time to teach me to count / They told me one’s the only number I should worry about.” Miller’s innumeracy turned out to be a blessing in disguise—unable to conceive of anything less than first place, he’s all the more driven to achieve absolute greatness. Over a breezy, bell-laced beat by ID Labs and Mark (of Insane Sounds), the Panhandle State resident showcases mic skills to match his lofty ambitions, dropping verses packed from top to bottom with witty boasts and pop-referential punchlines (“Ron Burgundy, I’m kind of a big deal.”). Think Jake Miller’s got the goods to make it to the top? Then keep it locked—this cut isn’t attached to any forthcoming project, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted on this this promising up-and-comer.

I am beginning to grow tired of the whole "reach for the top," "I can be the best," "I'm the greatest of all-time" angles, but if they are done in a non-stale, catchy manner I can be flexible on my tiresome stance. Thankfully, Mr. Miller doesn't fall into that trap and managed to craft an upbeat, listenable on more than one occasion, type of record. What is next is the best question...

He shows a lot of potential on this track. I'm really impressed by his lyricism, but think his flow needs to improve. I'm Looking forward to seeing how he develops

I like the chorus. Not very original but the way it was portrayed made it pretty nice. Mix is pretty decent. Vox sound good. As for Jake hes good but nothing special. Im looking for originality (that will get you a 5)...Overall Good track man

Solid song. I think the kid has potential. He's better than probably 90% of the rappers I've heard from Florida. Although I'm not too sure if that means much.

just another cliche white dude spitting about being the best... not really feeling it at all. Sick of any random white dude thinking he can rap... not to mention that his name is Jake Miller. Like really? How are you gonna stick with the name Jake MILLER when there is another white dude with your exact swag and image named MAC MILLER who is about to be the Justin Beiber of rap???? stupid.

well for one, why is there a tag with the beat of "IDLABSBEATS.com". Do you even own this beat Jake Miller? thats very unprofessional. not hating but cmon, this is a professional rap website, and i dont wanna hear tags throughout my song. Catchy chorus and decent playful lyrics. 2 stars.
