Jackie Boyz - Winning Isn't Easy
Artist: Jackie Boyz
Producer: JulKeyz
Album: 585 Days Later Mixtape
Label: Jackie Boyz Ent.
While it’s been over a year since the Jackie Boyz last graced our front page, it’d be inaccurate to say that we haven’t heard from the club-popsters in that time; in addition to helping pen Sean Kingston/Justin Bieber collab Eenie Meenie, Stevie and Los have racked up songwriting credits with everyone from Ron Isley to Madonna. After all that hard work, the duo are back to blow off a little steam on Winning Isn’t Easy, an anthemic joint dedicated to all those putting in overtime on their way to the top. Making its world premiere in the Booth, the newly-leaked cut finds Julkeyz flipping a sample from Christopher Cross’ A Chance for Heaven (theme song of the 1984 US Olympic swim team, believe it or not) into a melodramatic backdrop for the duo’s Autotuned reflections on the hustle. Complete with the smooth guest vocals of R&B singer Micah, this joint should be just the thing to motivate anyone on their grind – whether said grind involves swimming, music, or writing track reviews for DJBooth.net. Those digging it can stay tuned for release details on the Boyz’ 585 Dayz Later mixtape, due out “soon.”

I watched them create the song. They practically free-styled the whole thing. Talk about talking songwriting to the next level! Plus do you hear what they're saying? "Winning Isn't Easy" but they sure do know how to make it look like it is. Listening to it on repeat!

There was really no need for that introduction in the beginning of the track, I lost interest soon after. Weak verses generic production and a lazy hook.

@Big A, why are you rating it just based on auto-tune? I wish Jay-Z had never made that song, cause now everybody is completely against auto-tune when we were eating it up a few months before on Lil Wayne's "Lollipop".
Anyways, this song is decent. |

I never liked autotune. I always hated it to death. but this song is anyways generic as hell. weak lyrics and weak beat. LOL @ the 3-4 people here with 1 rating and giving this forgettable piece of studio music 5 stars. must be someone affiliated to this song... |

There is an audience for this sound and (sadly) isn't not the Booth. Its hard to even semi-appreciate records like this from computer speakers. Unless, of course, your computer speakers are in the car or the club.

I think I see where they're going with one... Musical sounds from that movie 'The Warriors', fused with hip hop/r'n'b production (i'm joking but that's what popped into my head when the track started). Kind of an awkward fit, but I thought Lil Wayne was weird when I first heard him too...
I'll give em the benefit of the doubt and rate it 3 with hopes of improving on this sound... |
